Key Responsibilities:

• The Development Engineer will design and develop specialist products manufactured by client, implementing new designs into production and the project management thereof
• Conduct stress calculations to validate the structural integrity of components and assemblies using a formula based approached for simple calculations and an FEA simulation approach
• Assess and implement design change requests related to the full range of client’s products
• Preparation, maintenance and revision control of 3D CAD models, drawings and BOM’s using Solidworks CAD and PLM software
• The Development Engineer will work closely with and support other departments (Production, Production Engineering, Purchasing, Quality) and suppliers to improve existing designs with respect to manufacturability and assembly and provide assistance to other departments and suppliers to help solve technical problems during manufacture and assembly, including overseeing validation testing required during the design change process and summarise results in a technical report
• Testing of products, both internally and externally Wide-ranging support to the R&D department in the research, testing and development of products

Person Specification:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related subject is preferred. HNC or HND level candidates with relevant experience will also be considered
• A depth of practical experience in 3D CAD is essential, preferably using SolidWorks, familiarity with other design and simulation software such as AutoCAD and ANSYS would be an advantage
• Ideally familiar with the principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Design of industrial instruments and/or process plant equipment.
• Knowledge of special materials such as austenitic and Duplex stainless steels, hastelloy, titanium, tantalum, permanent joining methods such as welding, brazing, adhesive bonding etc, manufacturing processes such as casting, injection moulding, machining, fabrication, forming etc would be advantageous
• An interest in and understanding of physics/general science and mechanics as applicable to transducer operation is desirable.

The Role:

A vacancy, reporting to the Development Manager has arisen in the R&D department for an experienced Mechanical Approvals Engineer, with an engineering bias.

Familiarity with either pressure vessels, process pipelines, pumps, valves, heat exchangers would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administrating and coordinating the compliance of client’s products to the Pressure Equipment Directive and other National and State Standards relating to pressurised equipment requirements.
• Creating and maintaining all pressure related Technical Files.

 Other Associated Duties:

• Preparing and submitting approvals to Notified Bodies by collating the associated information in electronic and/or paper format as required.
• Preparing and submitting Design Assessments and Material Appraisals to the Notified Body as required.
• Keep up to date with the requirements and any other relevant pressure related standards.
• Monitor the Certification status of all of client’s pressure related approvals.
• Reviewing non-conformance reports relating to pressure components and advising a suitable course of action.
• Working with the Purchasing Department, to ensure all pressure related materials and material manufacturers are suitably certified and approved.

Person Specification:

• Typically a HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related subject from an accredited University or substantial relevant experience in lieu. You will have a minimum of 2 years practical experience in a product approval role.
• Familiarity with either pressure vessels, process pipelines, pumps, valves, heat exchangers would be an advantage. Alternative industries will be considered. Excellent understanding and working knowledge of PED 2014/68/EU is highly desirable, but not essential.
• General knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, permanent joining processes (welding, brazing) and stress analysis would be beneficial.
• Familiar and confident working with Notified Bodies (e.g. TUV, BSI, Lloyds Register)
• Capable of arranging and witnessing experimental testing of pressurised equipment carried out by third party organisations and the subsequent reporting of results.
• Basic competency in the use of SolidWorks CAD software would be beneficial.
