Our world-leading client is looking for a Product Design Engineer, inside IR35. The initial assignment duration is 6 months with the possibility of extension.
This is a hybrid role; you will be expected to work onsite 1 or 2 days per week.
For this role we're looking for an engineer with a design biased background who has some project management experience. You will need to be comfortable drawing up quality reviews and liaising with suppliers.
Duration: 6 months, possibly longer
Pay: £25.48 - £28.66 per hour (this role is inside IR35)
Product Design Engineer Candidate Requirements
CREO experience is required
PTC Windchill experience would be a big advantage
Ideally Degree qualified, but this isn’t essential
Prior entry level engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required

This product focused position applies knowledge of engineering principles and design practices to create optimized design concepts and mechanical design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability.
This role effectively communicates the capability of a design concept to meet cross-functional requirements including assessment of alternative and competitive design concepts and works effectively across cross-functional disciplines to develop corporate and customer requirements including those required to resolve product issues.
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)
Investigates Value Package Introduction (VPI) program team or field-based issues, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution from a design perspective, while documenting results with guidance from more experienced team members.
Applies and supports the execution of processes such as Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation Consideration Checklist, Design Review, and tools such as iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, ANSYS Workbench required to enable high quality component and subsystem-level design decision-making and design refinement.
Supports design decision-making in the areas of concept selection, concept optimization, and design
Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with a greater degree of technical complexity and ambiguity over the entry level engineer level and with greater accountability to the project team.
Provides independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes.
Involves minimal direct management of people but could involve the coordination and direction of work amongst technicians and/or temporary student employees.
The Product Design Engineer contributes effectively toward team goals, exhibits influence within a work group and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)
The Supplier Quality Engineer will lead supplier interface from inception through to start of production.
Work with purchasing to assess potential suppliers to ensure compatibility with the company Quality expectations.
Manage part approval processes for parts on new projects, ensuring that pre-production builds have the right part, to the right Quality and at the right time.
Managing quality concerns relating to allocated suppliers. Monitor and control conformity of production within the supply base.
Supporting the supplier to resolve quality issues to ensure product quality and supply.
Support manufacturing with new model build concerns to ensure build plans are maintained and issues are addressed in a controlled and constructive manner.
Conduct supplier selection audits to assess capability and suitability. Working closely with the Purchasing department to ensure suitable supplier selection and feedback on supplier performance concerns.
Assist with creating quality standards for new models and train manufacturing on model quality requirements.
Working within the Quality team to create and implement new systems to act as a robust foundation for a brand-new Quality department.
