Responsibilities of Machinists

  • Operate and maintain a group of machines within a complex manufacturing system.
  • Working to tight tolerances
  • CNC Turning and milling.
  • Own Quality inspection – measuring own parts.
  • Utilising grinding and polishing machines
  • Gear cutting and heat treatment. 
  • Working on automated systems
  • Set and Operate – No programming.
  • Working a 3-shift system – nights is 4 nights, Mon - Thurs

Requirements for Machinists

  • Apprentice trained to Level 3, or other engineering qualifications considered.
  • To have worked in a fast paced, automated environment
  • CNC turning knowledge, but CNC Milling experience also readily considered.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will have experience of managing multiple complex steel structures / structural steelwork projects to completion. You will lead projects through every stage of the project life cycle, from planning to delivery. If you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and have the ability to maintain focus under pressure, you may be exactly what the business is looking for.

As a Project Manager, you’ll be a key member of the team, responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong rapport with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and time management skills, along with strong attention to detail.

This is a role that will be 90% office based. A pool vehicle will be supplied for any customer meetings or surveys.

Salary and Hours

  • Salary £40,000 - £50,000 dependant on experience
  • 8:00am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday

Candidate Requirements

  • The Project Manager will have proven experience within steel structures / structural steelwork
  • A project management degree or similar would be ideal, but is not essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable expertise in project management through all phases of a project life cycle
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and programs including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Expertise with project management software (e.g. Microsoft Project, Primavera)
  • Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail, with strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities

  • The Project Manager will be involved in project planning sessions to set project goals and objectives, determine timelines, define tasks, and outline resources necessary to successfully complete the project
  • Select and manage a team from among internal and external sub-contractors 
  • Monitor the progress of projects, including addressing issues that may arise and ensuring project deliverables are completed on time
  • Use an appropriate tracking tool to coordinate different elements of the project
  • Follow standard processes as defined by the Association for Project Management (APM) or Project 
  • Management Institute (PMI)
  • Organize regular status and review meetings as necessary, including generating and distributing meeting minutes
  • Gather resources, identify potential constraints based on activities and timeframes, and define solutions to manage any constraints
  • Design a risk management plan to minimize foreseeable disruptions to the project

Engineering & Design Lead Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

Technical

  • Provide technical direction to the team, producing sound engineering solutions to engineering problems, backed up with design analysis where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to problems incorporating the latest materials, manufacturing processes and technology to drive the product range forward.
  • Manage product developments, ensuring changes are controlled and implemented across the product range to maintain a standard equipment offering
  • Take overall design responsibility for projects assigned to the team and manage them from project launch to completion ensuring all project deliverables are met.
  • Ensure all required design standards and legislation are met and that supporting documentation is produced and approved.
  • Take responsibility for equipment quality, resolving any design problems found during manufacturing or commissioning. 
  • Coordinate technical support to sales to help produce accurate project proposals and to manage project risk.

Team Management

  • Direct day-to-day management of team members.
  • Recruitment and training plans for direct reports as well as mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Management of project cost, schedule and quality.
  • Review and provide feedback on prospects incl schedule, design hours and project risk.
  • Deputise for the Engineering Manager or other Lead Sector Engineers when needed.
  • Drive and be a role model for the company values & behaviours.
  • To be aware of and follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures, in respect of self and others.

  • Previous experience of budget control and management
