Role Overview

  • The CNC Machinist will programme, set and operate a variety of 3 axis CNC Machines (Hurco and HAAS) for component and fixturing manufacture and assembly.
  • As part of a small in-house team, the CNC Machinist will play an equal part supporting production with modified or bespoke machined components made from a variety of materials from nylon through to stainless steel, as well as working on longer term continuous improvement projects that require machined content (i.e. tooling, fixturing etc).
  • Reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the CNC Machinist will work cross functionally with Production Leadership, Planning and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure production requirements for short turn-around components are met. 
  • The CNC Machinist will work within the Tool room / Plant Maintenance function, in addition supporting the wider production operation in areas such as jigs and fixture repair, equipment maintenance and prototyping.

Candidate Requirements

  • GCSE Level A-C, A Level in Sciences, BTec Level 3 Certificates in Engineering (or equivalent), Level 4 qualification preferred.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of programming, setting and operating 3 axis CNC cutting machines (Hurco and HAAS in particular)
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 programming software
  • Working experience working within a tool room / plant and equipment maintenance environment.
  • Good knowledge and practical understanding of mechanical engineering applications in product assembly, jigs and fixtures, plant and equipment
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, machining and finish specifications.
  • Be able to use and operate a wide range of manual machines such as millers, grinders, saws etc
  • MIG/TIG welding experience in the workplace
  • Experience of contributing to small group activities to drive improvement ideas. 
  • Strong PC skills and experience of packages such as Excel and Standard Analyses: Nav, Creo, Windchill, DXF, Cad viewing packages

About You

You will be a process led, diligent CNC programmer / engineer, with an eye for quality and detail as well as good background skills in workload management and communication.

Able to demonstrate experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a similar environment or industry. An ability to work and resolve issues within the production environment, quickly and accurately is a must.

Environmental Health & Safety Officer Duties:

  • Day-to-day tasks relating to Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Promote an environmental, health and safety awareness / culture to fully achieve compliance with legalization and the strategic direction of the company, 
  • Ensure the MME’s rules, policies and procedures are compliant with current Environmental, H&S legislation, 
  • Ensure that an Environmental Management System is established, implemented, and maintained in accordance with ISO 14001.
  • Liaise with the Company’s insurers regarding any personal injury claims and provide all required data to them regarding each claim.
  • Ensure COSHH Data Sheets and risk assessments are in place and kept up to date.
  • Develop and implement a Health & Safety system, to a framework aligned to ISO45001

Environmental Health & Safety Officer Requirements:

  • Proven experience in Environmental, Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’S (or equivalent) at Grade C and above to include Maths and English.
  • IOSH / NEBOSH Qualification (General, Environmental and Fire).
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing, auditing and maintaining a QMS ISO 14001 system preferred.

EHS Lead Candidate Requirements

  • Qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety, such as NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within manufacturing / engineering is essential.
  • Understanding of ISO 14001, along with an understanding of the application of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the company’s business.
  • Ability to effectively influence those at a senior level.
  • Professional approach to dealing with issues and employees.
  • Appreciation of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Approximately 10-15% travel activity mainly based in the UK.

EHS Lead Key Responsibilities 

  • Create, review and manage EH&S policies, procedures, risk assessments and monitoring systems and manage associated actions.
  • Audit compliance with company EH&S policies, SSoWs, legislation and guidance and report areas of non-compliance.
  • Monitor health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace and inform Supervision immediately of any situations that require immediate rectification or stopping of operation.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g. customers, insurers, HSE, EA, LA) on EH&S matters.
  • Carry out workplace monitoring (e.g. noise, dust, vibration) as necessary and maintain records.
  • Investigate all serious accidents, collect performance data and report quarterly to the various H&S committee meetings.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and guidance and implement changes where relevant (e.g. to policies or procedures).
  • Provide advice on the environment, health and safety to employees at all levels of the business.
  • Work with and train employees to manage, monitor and improve the environmental, health and safety standards in the workplace - advise employees on how to minimise or ultimately avoid risks and hazards in the workplace.

Technical

  • Provide technical direction to the team, producing sound engineering solutions to engineering problems, backed up with design analysis where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to problems incorporating the latest materials, manufacturing processes and technology to drive the product range forward.
  • Manage product developments, ensuring changes are controlled and implemented across the product range to maintain a standard equipment offering
  • Take overall design responsibility for projects assigned to the team and manage them from project launch to completion ensuring all project deliverables are met.

  • Recruitment and training plans for direct reports as well as mentoring of junior engineers.
