Role Function 

The Calibration Metrologist will calibrate various measuring instruments and gauges, under UKAS regulations, following set procedures and standards on behalf of internal and external customers. 

Calibration Metrologist Candidate Requirements

  • The Calibration Metrologist will have proven Dimensional Metrology experience.
  • Experience of First Principal Measurement. 
  • Inspection techniques in order to relate to customer applications and the subject is essential. 
  • Able to work independently representing the company at their own sites and at customer premises.  
  • Good communication, organisational and I.T. skills. 
  • Willingness to learn; be very well organised, presentable, flexible and self-motivated.

Calibration Metrologist Responsibilities

  • Strict adherence to all internal procedures and a conscientious work ethic.
  • Ensure the department and the organisation’s reputation is not compromised.
  • Carry out approved calibrations as laid out within the laboratory’s operating procedures.
  • Maintain impartiality throughout each calibration.
  • Ensure calibration results are accurate and fully maintained.
  • Ensure capital equipment remains in excellent working order.
  • Maintain understanding of UKAS accreditation and its implications.
  • Respond to customer calibration queries as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate administrative and reporting records.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with immediate supervisor.
  • Contribute to the success of the Calibration Laboratory and ensure efficient performance, in line with internal procedures, standards and UKAS requirements.
  • Undertake additional duties as and when required, as requested by line manager.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Continuous Improvement Engineer role or similar
  • Experience within a pressing, sheet metal or fabrication environment would be advantageous

RESPONSIBILITIES for QUALITY ENGINEER

  • Maintain the IATF 16949 Quality System, ensuring compliance across all relevant departments.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits (IATF, quality, and process) and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions for any non-conformities.
  • Lead quality involvement in the engineering change process, including participation in weekly meetings and ensuring APQP requirements are met.
  • Coordinate annual product testing with accredited external laboratories, ensuring regulatory and internal standards are upheld.
  • Manage internal and supplier non-conformances, including material segregation and documentation.
  • Represent the Quality function in APQP activities for new projects
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action (8D) for internal and external issues
  • Control calibration processes for all measurement and inspection equipment 
  • Monitor internal scrap trends 
  • Manage supplier Certificates of Conformity (CoC) and maintain accurate records of all quality documentation.
  • Collect and analyse quality data
  • Maintain and update customer portals with relevant quality documentation, audit results, and project updates.

REQUIREMENTS FOR QUALITY ENGINEER

  • Relevant Quality Engineer experience, you will have gained your experience from within a manufacturing / engineering background
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and a commitment to seeing tasks through to completion.
  • Technically proficient, with strong IT skills including Microsoft Office 365 and working knowledge of web-based systems; experience with SAP quality modules is advantageous.
  • Skilled in problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) analysis, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies, including 5S, Standardised Work, Poka-Yoke, and Just-In-Time (JIT).
  • Thorough understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards and their practical application in a manufacturing environment.
  • Six Sigma training (Green Belt or higher) is desirable but not essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES for CNC TURNER

  • Program, set, and operate CNC turning machines (Mazatrol, Siemens, G-code)
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
  • Competent with all aspects of setting tools and understanding cutting speeds, feeds, boring, drilling and threading
  • Machine components to tight tolerances
  • Perform tooling setups with a strong understanding of speeds and feeds
  • Use precision measuring equipment (verniers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS for CNC TURNER

  • Significant experience in CNC Setting, Operating programming
  • Sound knowledge of machining principles and best practices
  • Proficient in the use of inspection and measurement equipment
  • Experience of measuring / inspection equipment, including verniers, bore gauges and micrometers
  • CAD/CAM knowledge is an advantage
  • Positive, proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively
