Role Overview

The business is looking to recruit a Senior Electronics Engineer to support the continuing growth of their design department.  The role will involve providing technical guidance to other members of the Electronics Design team, working alongside other engineering disciplines, designing hardware and embedded software to extend the businesses product range.

Salary, Hours and Benefits

  • £52,000 - £55,000
  • Hybrid

Candidate Requirements

  • The Senior Electronics Engineer will hold a degree or similar qualification in Electronics Engineering or a comparable subject.
  • Proven experience in embedded firmware design, development, and testing would be a huge advantage, along with, firmware unit, integration, and system testing.
  • Solid experience in electronics hardware design, development, and testing; including PCB schematic design and layout.
  • The Senior Electronics Engineer will have EMC design and test experience.
  • New product development, and design validation process – FMEA, DFM. 
  • Creation of supporting design documentation, development reports, BoM, build packs.
  • Experience of electronics design within a highly regulated industry, with experience of working with third party approval/certification bodies.
  • Experience in architecture design and architecture design tools, with a familiarity of machinery safety standards or similar.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Senior Electronics Engineer will be a lead electronics resource for the business.  
  • Identify areas of improvement and assist implementing new processes.
  • Design and maintenance of hardware and embedded software for use within company products.
  • Assessment and documentation of products against specifications
  • Coordinate with and assist other departments.

Purpose of the Role:

As a Production Engineer, you'll ensure manufacturing processes meet safety standards, achieve efficient production, and deliver top-quality results. Collaborating with the Production Management team, you'll refine processes, develop work instructions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support timely and high-quality production as a Production Engineer
  • Maintain plant and resources for longevity and efficiency
  • Ensure a safe working environment
  • Implement lean philosophies for continuous improvement

  • Innovate and improve manufacturing processes

Skills / Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Production Engineer
  • Experience in lean environments
  • Ideally in electronics or electro-mechanical assembly
  • Engineering or science-related degree/HNC/HND
  • Proficient in problem-solving techniques (8D, PFMEA)
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Computer literate, especially in Excel
  • Previous CNC and programming experience preferred
  • CAD experience advantageous but not essential

  • Detailed knowledge  of Health and Safety Legislation and Employment Law, DSEAR and COSHH
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Engineering Estimator Duties:

  • Correct person must have Presswork Experience along with Estimating.
  • Formulate quotations and estimate costs based on CAD or engineering drawings.
  • Identify cost-effective manufacturing processes for components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to obtain subcontract costs.
  • Prepare cost sheets and assist in production component preparation.
  • Work closely with the estimating department and wider business to deliver competitive solutions.

Role Purpose

  • As part of providing life protecting products, testing and traceability of the products in-process and prior to shipment to customer is hugely important. 
  • Evolving test hardware and software to support production operations in an effective and efficient manner whilst growing our output is a key.
  • The Manufacturing Test Engineer (MTE) will define, develop, implement and improve product test processes and hardware / software in the production environment.
  • Forming part of global operations and reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Test Engineer will work cross-functionally with Product Design and Testing, Production and Manufacturing functions and be instrumental in the design and development of product testing processes and equipment from conception through to production support and continuous improvement. 

Key Qualifications and Experience Required

  • The Manufacturing Test Engineer will be time served experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing and production environment, educated to degree level (ideally) in mechanical engineering, electronics, controls or closely related subject matter.
  • Experience in electronics and software / hardware design and manufacturing systems design.
  • Strong track record in continuous improvement, project management, fault rectification and production support roles
  • Be able to evidence an aptitude for detail, process control and documentation.
  • Experience interacting with and leading cross functional improvement groups on the shop floor.
  • Demonstrate a flexible, inclusive and pro-active approach to identifying and resolving problems.

About You

  • The Manufacturing Test Engineer will be a process led, proactive problem solver, data led and analytical in nature.
  • Having good background skills in project, task and prioritisation management and communication you will be able to demonstrate experience in electronics and testing at a practical level, preferably in a similar environment or industry. An ability to work and resolve issues within a high-pressure production environment, quickly and accurately is a must. 

Key Areas of Responsibility of The Role Include

  • Test Definition - Using product and process knowledge to define & develop testing solutions, including hardware / software and process application.
  • Reporting and Data – Defining and analysing data capture and information, interpreting results and driving improvement.
  • Process Support – Developing and documenting test processes and providing support to operations teams. Manage test process adherence and training.
  • Hardware / Software Support – Maintenance management, fault resolution, Test system safety and calibration
  • Product Testing – Supporting production test processes to understand and resolve test failures.
  • New Capability – Support Product development with testing capability and continuous improvements initiatives with global standardisation in mind

Program Manager Duties:

  • Lead product development programs
  • Bring programs to successful conclusions with all targets met i.e, timing and quality
  • Ensure project master plan is developed and reviewed
  • Define necessary resources to meet targets  
  • Ensure customer specifications, (milestones, quality, packaging) are met
  • That the program financial indicators are managed
  • Ensure technical changes are executed
  • Control expenditure against approved budget
  • Perform risk assessments
  • Attending office 1 day per week

Program Manager Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience with HNC
  • Proven Program management skills
  • Strong knowledge of methodologies and tools (planning and problem solving)
  • Experience with project management financials, P&L understanding
  • High volume production environment experience would be essential
  • To have evidence of previous management of project cycles
  • This would suit a natural Leader
  • Strong team building skills
