Probe Technical are looking to recruit a full time and permanent Production Operative to join a very busy manufacturing facility.  This is an excellent time to join due to business growth, with opportunities for career progression. 

The role will involve working as part of a team, requiring excellent communication and willing to take part in problem solving and continuous improvement exercises. Flexibility with a willingness to learn and embrace new skills will also form a fundamental requirement of the role.

You must be flexible to work 12-hour shifts, covering days and nights.

  • Document process activities completely and promptly.
  • Oversee the operational state of equipment during production.
  • Notify supervisors when raw materials are required or finished products are ready for transfer to the warehouse.

QUALITY ENGINEER

We are offering a role for an experienced Quality Engineer within our World Class manufacturing Business, in order to maintain and improve product quality and enhance the existing systems

RESPONSIBILITIES for QUALITY ENGINEER

  • Maintain the IATF 16949 Quality System, ensuring compliance across all relevant departments.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits (IATF, quality, and process) and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions for any non-conformities.
  • Lead quality involvement in the engineering change process, including participation in weekly meetings and ensuring APQP requirements are met.
  • Coordinate annual product testing with accredited external laboratories, ensuring regulatory and internal standards are upheld.
  • Manage internal and supplier non-conformances, including material segregation and documentation.
  • Represent the Quality function in APQP activities for new projects
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action (8D) for internal and external issues
  • Control calibration processes for all measurement and inspection equipment 
  • Monitor internal scrap trends 
  • Manage supplier Certificates of Conformity (CoC) and maintain accurate records of all quality documentation.
  • Collect and analyse quality data
  • Maintain and update customer portals with relevant quality documentation, audit results, and project updates.

REQUIREMENTS FOR QUALITY ENGINEER

  • Relevant Quality Engineer experience, you will have gained your experience from within a manufacturing / engineering background
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and a commitment to seeing tasks through to completion.
  • Technically proficient, with strong IT skills including Microsoft Office 365 and working knowledge of web-based systems; experience with SAP quality modules is advantageous.
  • Skilled in problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) analysis, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies, including 5S, Standardised Work, Poka-Yoke, and Just-In-Time (JIT).
  • Thorough understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards and their practical application in a manufacturing environment.
  • Six Sigma training (Green Belt or higher) is desirable but not essential.

Role Function 

The Toolmaker will be a responsible for the manufacture, maintenance and continuous improvement of production press tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and special purpose machinery.

Toolmaker Candidate Requirements

  • Time-served apprentice and NVQ or equivalent in Tool making or Machining
  • Strong background in precision engineering and toolroom operations
  • Skilled in operating Toolroom machinery (lathes, mills, grinders etc)
  • Experience with press tooling, fault diagnosis and tool repair
  • Ability to read technical drawings
  • CNC experience
  • Ability to produce jigs & fixtures
  • TIG welding experience desirable or willing to learn


Toolmaker Responsibilities

  • Manufacture and modify tooling, jigs, fixtures, and special-purpose machinery
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings to determine the best manufacturing methods
  • Operate a full range of Toolroom machinery (milling, turning, grinding, CNC etc)
  • Assemble and disassemble press tools, check tolerances and ensure functional performance
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs


Onsite Capabilities

  • The Toolroom gives full control over the servicing and quality of company tooling. Equipped with an impressive range of machinery – HURCO 3 Axis CNC Miller, lathes, pillar drills, Lumsden and surface grinders – they can manufacture complex parts and maintain critical press tooling without relying on external suppliers.
  • In addition to maintaining existing tooling, the Toolroom team also designs and manufactures bespoke tools, jigs, and fixtures, ensuring precision and reliability in every part of production.
 

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Manual Machinist to join an existing team in their new facility.

The company offer a full Manual Machining Service for products, across Manufacturing, Fabrication and General Engineering.

To be considered for this role, you will be Apprentice Trained, with proven manual machining experience on both Lathes and Milling machines.  

Manual Machinist Role Benefits:

  • £36,400 - £40,560 dependant on experience (£17.50 - £19.50 per hour)

Manual Machinist Candidate Requirements

  • Apprentice trained
  • It is essential that you have proven experience of setting and operating manual lathes and milling machines
  • Competency in milling, grinding, drilling and lathe work is all essential along with working to tight tolerances
  • Experience with sleeving, bushing housings, and stubbing shafts required
  • A good attitude to work
  • Driving Licence
  • No training provided, you must have the above skill set and ability to hit the ground running

Manual Machinist Duties

  • You will be required to operate Manual lathes and Milling machines and carry out repairs on various mechanical components from customers. 
  • You need to be capable of working to drawings and samples and generate drawings on occasions with the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. 
  • 50% of the work is working from drawings and 50% repair and breakdowns, where working of your own initiative is essential
  • Occasional customer site visits, to discuss future projects and urgent work. Possibly sketch the job if required – transport will be provided.
 

QUALITY ENGINEER – PART-TIME

DUTIES

  • Maintain and support the IATF 16949 Quality Management System.
  • Coordinate the annual product testing schedule in collaboration with external laboratories.
  • Manage internal non-conformance and supplier reject systems, ensuring effective documentation and resolution.
  • Support new engineering projects through the APQP process, with a focus on plant-level involvement.
  • Drive internal PPM (Parts Per Million) improvement initiatives and lead problem-solving activities.
  • Assist cross-functional teams in resolving quality issues using 8D methodology.
  • Oversee calibration schedules for all internal equipment, including internal checks and coordination with external calibration providers.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to coordinate and implement product and process improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor internal scrap levels and lead improvement activities with production teams.
  • Manage and maintain supplier Certificates of Conformity and associated documentation.
  • Maintain and update customer quality portals, providing regular reports on audit and project status to management.
  • Create, review, and revise quality documentation, including PFMEAs, Control Plans, and other related documents.
  • Conduct audits covering quality systems, processes, LPA (Layered Process Audits), and basic quality practices.

REQUIREMENTS

  • It is essential that you have Quality Engineer experience
  • Must have gained experience from within manufacturing
  • A good standard of IT literacy is important – exposure to SAP would be advantageous
  • Proven problem-solving skills 8D and 5 Why analysis
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
  • Strong understanding  of ISO9001 and TS16949 would be ideal though not essential

  • Any experience with CMM would be an advantage
