About You

You will be a process led, diligent CNC Programmer / Engineer, with an eye for quality and detail as well as good background skills in workload management and communication.

Able to demonstrate experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a similar environment or industry. An ability to work and resolve issues within the production environment, quickly and accurately is a must.

Salary, Hours and Benefits

  • £35,000 - £37,000 (dependant on experience)
  • 7:30am – 4:00pm Monday – Thursday, 1:00pm finish on Friday’s

Candidate Requirements

  • An experienced Machinist with CNC (VMC/Milling) programming ability.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of programming, setting and operating 3 axis CNC cutting machines.
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 programming software experience would be useful.
  • Working experience working within a tool room / plant and equipment maintenance environment.
  • Good knowledge and practical understanding of mechanical engineering applications in product assembly, jigs and fixtures, plant and equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, machining and finish specifications. PC skills and experience of packages such as Excel and Standard Analyses: Nav, Creo, Windchill, DXF, Cad viewing packages. 
  • Be able to use and operate a wide range of manual machines such as millers, grinders, saws etc.
  • MIG/TIG welding experience in the workplace.
  • Experience of contributing to small group activities to drive improvement ideas. 

Role Overview

  • The CNC Programmer will programme, set and operate a variety of 3 axis CNC Machines for component and fixturing manufacture and assembly.
  • As part of a small in-house team, the CNC Programmer will play an equal part supporting production with modified or bespoke machined components made from a variety of materials from nylon through to stainless steel, as well as working on longer term continuous improvement projects that require machined content (i.e. tooling, fixturing etc).
  • Reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the CNC Programmer will work cross functionally with Production Leadership, Planning and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure production requirements for short turn-around components are met. 
  • You will work within the Tool room / Plant Maintenance function, in addition supporting the wider production operation in areas such as jigs and fixture repair, equipment maintenance and prototyping.

Role Purpose

  • As part of providing life protecting products, testing and traceability of the products in-process and prior to shipment to customer is hugely important. 
  • Evolving test hardware and software to support production operations in an effective and efficient manner whilst growing our output is a key.
  • The Manufacturing Test Engineer (MTE) will define, develop, implement and improve product test processes and hardware / software in the production environment.
  • Forming part of global operations and reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Test Engineer will work cross-functionally with Product Design and Testing, Production and Manufacturing functions and be instrumental in the design and development of product testing processes and equipment from conception through to production support and continuous improvement. 

Key Qualifications and Experience Required

  • The Manufacturing Test Engineer will be time served experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing and production environment, educated to degree level (ideally) in mechanical engineering, electronics, controls or closely related subject matter.
  • Experience in electronics and software / hardware design and manufacturing systems design.
  • Strong track record in continuous improvement, project management, fault rectification and production support roles
  • Be able to evidence an aptitude for detail, process control and documentation.
  • Experience interacting with and leading cross functional improvement groups on the shop floor.
  • Demonstrate a flexible, inclusive and pro-active approach to identifying and resolving problems.

About You

  • The Manufacturing Test Engineer will be a process led, proactive problem solver, data led and analytical in nature.
  • Having good background skills in project, task and prioritisation management and communication you will be able to demonstrate experience in electronics and testing at a practical level, preferably in a similar environment or industry. An ability to work and resolve issues within a high-pressure production environment, quickly and accurately is a must. 

Key Areas of Responsibility of The Role Include

  • Test Definition - Using product and process knowledge to define & develop testing solutions, including hardware / software and process application.
  • Reporting and Data – Defining and analysing data capture and information, interpreting results and driving improvement.
  • Process Support – Developing and documenting test processes and providing support to operations teams. Manage test process adherence and training.
  • Hardware / Software Support – Maintenance management, fault resolution, Test system safety and calibration
  • Product Testing – Supporting production test processes to understand and resolve test failures.
  • New Capability – Support Product development with testing capability and continuous improvements initiatives with global standardisation in mind

Role Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations by resolving build quality problems, improving tools and processes and ensuring the smooth introduction of project related product changes and new features. To investigate, plan and implement new engineering processes/methods/tooling facilities in conjunction with Manufacturing departments.

  • The Manufacturing Engineer will fully understand all Health and Safety implications for any proposed change and fully understand any production related cost.
  • Management of BOMs and material movement through plan for every part
  • Work with colleagues in all cross-functional projects to ensure smooth transition across the manufacturing facility.

Candidate Requirements

  • Knowledge and use of quality analysis and problem-solving techniques.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings.

Due to an expansion, we are now recruiting for several roles! We offer a good variety of job roles, A good level of experience would be ideal but not overly required as some training can be provided. Roles include both manual work and machining (see below)

Salary/Benefits and Night Shifts for CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator

  • Starting salary at £28,000 up to £35,000 (DOE)

CNC Borers:

  • Roles available for experience in Heidenhain control systems and Fanuc (Fanuc also uses Cimcon CADCam for programming)

CNC Vertical Borer Setter/Operator/Programmer:

  • Have some CNC Setter/Operator/Programmer experience using Fanuc control systems (also uses Cimco CADCam for programming)

  • Have the ability to self-inspect the parts.

Candidate Requirements (but not limited to)

  • The Purchasing Manager must be prepared to be hands-on in the stores if required. You will be adaptable, resilient and able to deal with ambiguity. This is a very fast paced environment, with short lead times. 
  • Previous experience of managing a small team in a manufacturing procurement or supply chain role.
  • CIPS qualification ideally (MCIPS is preferred but isn’t essential).
  • Previous experience of managing a small team in a manufacturing procurement or supply chain role.
  • Proven negotiation skills, contract management and the ability to forge relationships across all levels of the business. Commercial and financial acumen, with sound analytical skills and attention to detail and the ability to work strategically, tactically and operationally.
  • Demonstrated “global mindset” with the ability to think across disciplines, industries, cultures and scenarios.
  • High work ethic with strong focus on excellent customer service, with good presentation and communication skills. 
  • Committed to working harmoniously with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Manage spend on materials across multiple manufacturing sites taking a sustainable supplier centric approach.
  • Negotiate stock holding agreements or other methods to enable smooth materials flow.
  • Ownership of the supply base across UK, Europe, Asia, US and other viable locations which may be identified through a strategic sourcing approach.
  • Careful planning to minimise company inventory whilst ensuring that sales order OTIF can operate at minimum 98% i.e. 
  • Ownership of stock availability to enable effective management of stock levels to ensure optimization of ‘right parts, right place, right quantity, right time. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain to maximise customer order delivery success.
  • Effective communication of any parts availability risk ensuring that all options to resolve any availability concern is fully explored and appropriate action taken.
  • Ensuring that expedite and deferral requirements are carried out effectively across the team.
