Probe Technical Recruitment are recruiting a great opportunity for a proven Maintenance Technician to join a well-respected employer within the engineering sector. As a Maintenance Technician you will be required to undertake both planned and reactive maintenance across the plant, which will require you to have experience of supporting plant and equipment within either a fast-paced manufacturing, process, food or production environment and be comfortable in undertaking facilities maintenance work too.

Along with a day shift pattern of either 7-4 / 8-5, the Maintenance Technician role also has a package of:

  • Salary base £33,072 (£15.90 p/h)  
  • Paid Overtime anything over 40 hours 1.25x and over 48 at 1.5x

This is a superb opportunity for a Plant Fitter to join the team on a Morning shift 6am – 2.30pm Monday – Thursday and 6am – 1.30pm on a Friday. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacture, modification, maintenance, and repair, of a variety of equipment and ancillaries, ensuring that the fleet remains in prime working condition.

Key Duties

  • As a Plant Fitter, your key responsibilities will include: 
  • Using appropriate processes and techniques, you will read and interpret engineering drawings to complete manufacture and modification as requested.
  • Experience and skill of fault-finding, maintenance and repair of heavy-duty construction plant and hydraulic systems would be ideal.

Requirements of the Plant Fitter 

To excel in this role, you must meet the following criteria: 

  • You must hold a full UK driving licence and a Level 2 qualification in Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
  • This is a fitter role for the rigs not the factory, so previous experience is needed in heavy plant/ construction equipment. 
  • Although this role is not a mobile fitter role, they will be expected to go out to sites to attend breakdowns and general repairs, so need to have a driving licence. 
  • Experience with JCB’s and CAT
  • Welding and fabrication 

This role is commutable from Derby, Burton upon Trent, Swadlincote, Tamworth and Leicester.

Toolmaker Hours, Pay and Benefits

Toolmaker Role Purpose 

The Toolmaker will repair and service the moulding machine tools, and related equipment, in a timely and efficient manner.

Candidate Requirements

  • Time served toolmaker – for insurance purposes, Apprenticeship / Qualifications have to be from the UK
  • Proven Injection Mould / Plastics experience. 
  • Electrical experience is an advantage but not a necessity.
  • Experienced in the operation of toolmaking equipment, eg grinders, lathes, machining.
  • CNC Machining centre experience an advantage.
  • A base understanding on pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings.
  • Computer literate.

Toolmaker Key Responsibilities

  • Build, repair and maintain tooling
  • Work to fine tolerances
  • Prove tooling and troubleshoot until running acceptably - target to enable the tools to run "right first-time" in a production environment
  • Able to understand technical drawings
  • Liaise with operational staff to understand tooling related issues
  • Maintenance of machinery on site
  • General tool making tasks
  • To be flexible in a “breakdown” scenario

Role Function 

The Toolmaker will be a responsible for the manufacture, maintenance and continuous improvement of production press tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and special purpose machinery.

Toolmaker Candidate Requirements

  • Time-served apprentice and NVQ or equivalent in Tool making or Machining
  • Strong background in precision engineering and toolroom operations
  • Skilled in operating Toolroom machinery (lathes, mills, grinders etc)
  • Experience with press tooling, fault diagnosis and tool repair
  • Ability to read technical drawings
  • CNC experience
  • Ability to produce jigs & fixtures
  • TIG welding experience desirable or willing to learn


Toolmaker Responsibilities

  • Manufacture and modify tooling, jigs, fixtures, and special-purpose machinery
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings to determine the best manufacturing methods
  • Operate a full range of Toolroom machinery (milling, turning, grinding, CNC etc)
  • Assemble and disassemble press tools, check tolerances and ensure functional performance
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs


Onsite Capabilities

  • The Toolroom gives full control over the servicing and quality of company tooling. Equipped with an impressive range of machinery – HURCO 3 Axis CNC Miller, lathes, pillar drills, Lumsden and surface grinders – they can manufacture complex parts and maintain critical press tooling without relying on external suppliers.
  • In addition to maintaining existing tooling, the Toolroom team also designs and manufactures bespoke tools, jigs, and fixtures, ensuring precision and reliability in every part of production.

This is a superb opportunity for a Calibration Engineer to join the team on a double day shift. The successful candidate will manage the calibration of all inspection equipment and the control of the issuance and receipts of all gauges.

  • Salary depending on experience £31,000. 
  • Double day shift 0600-1400 Monday – Thursday and 0600-1230 Friday. Then the Afternoons are 1400-2400 Monday- Wednesday and 1400-2230 Thursday with Fridays off on the Afternoons week.

Key Duties for the Calibration Engineer:

  • To work with the purchasing department to ensure all externally calibrated items are delt with quickly, efficiently and within the financial budget.
  • To raise and propose the purchase of new replacement inspection equipment when the current items are not fit for purpose.

Requirements of the Calibration Engineer: 

To excel in this role, you must meet the following criteria: 

  • Minimum Engineering Apprentice trained NVQ3 
  • Proficiency in using calibration equipment and understanding measurement standards is crucial.
  • Experience in calibration labs, testing, or related sectors is highly valuable.
  • Proficiency in using calibration equipment and understanding measurement standards is crucial.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards ISO9001.
  • Experience with calibration development tools and software is beneficial.
