Role Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations by resolving build quality problems, improving tools and processes and ensuring the smooth introduction of project related product changes and new features. To investigate, plan and implement new engineering processes/methods/tooling facilities in conjunction with Manufacturing departments.

Being actively involved in the continuous process improvement within assembly/manufacturing, the Manufacturing Engineer will be a key figure in your ability to:

  • Identify and action waste elimination.
  • Define and implement build processes with consideration to appropriate Health & Safety and Quality standards
  • Using a “hands on” approach you will proactively utilise both lean principles and problem-solving tools and techniques within the workplace to respond to quality issues.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing related problems, ‘Cost of Quality’ concerns and issues raised by teams on Problem and Countermeasure boards, leading problem-solving teams where appropriate
  • The Manufacturing Engineer will fully understand all Health and Safety implications for any proposed change and fully understand any production related cost.
  • Management of BOMs and material movement through plan for every part
  • Work with colleagues in all cross-functional projects to ensure smooth transition across the manufacturing facility.

Candidate Requirements

  • Knowledge and use of quality analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Proven experience in a Manufacturing Engineer role.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of Jig & Tool design - CAD experience would be advantageous.
  • Manufacturing Engineering degree or HND / HNC equivalent is desirable.
  • Industrial engineering techniques.
  • Project management skills

You will be a process led, diligent CNC Programmer / Engineer, with an eye for quality and detail as well as good background skills in workload management and communication.

Able to demonstrate experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a similar environment or industry. An ability to work and resolve issues within the production environment, quickly and accurately is a must.

  • £35,000 - £37,000 (dependant on experience)

Candidate Requirements

  • An experienced Machinist with CNC (VMC/Milling) programming ability.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of programming, setting and operating 3 axis CNC cutting machines.
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 programming software experience would be useful.
  • Working experience working within a tool room / plant and equipment maintenance environment.
  • Good knowledge and practical understanding of mechanical engineering applications in product assembly, jigs and fixtures, plant and equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, machining and finish specifications. PC skills and experience of packages such as Excel and Standard Analyses: Nav, Creo, Windchill, DXF, Cad viewing packages. 
  • Be able to use and operate a wide range of manual machines such as millers, grinders, saws etc.
  • MIG/TIG welding experience in the workplace.
  • Experience of contributing to small group activities to drive improvement ideas. 

Role Overview

  • As part of a small in-house team, the CNC Programmer will play an equal part supporting production with modified or bespoke machined components made from a variety of materials from nylon through to stainless steel, as well as working on longer term continuous improvement projects that require machined content (i.e. tooling, fixturing etc).
  • Reporting into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the CNC Programmer will work cross functionally with Production Leadership, Planning and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure production requirements for short turn-around components are met. 
  • You will work within the Tool room / Plant Maintenance function, in addition supporting the wider production operation in areas such as jigs and fixture repair, equipment maintenance and prototyping.

Responsibilities of Machinists

  • Operate and maintain a group of machines within a complex manufacturing system.
  • Working to tight tolerances
  • CNC Turning and milling.
  • Own Quality inspection – measuring own parts.
  • Utilising grinding and polishing machines
  • Gear cutting and heat treatment. 
  • Working on automated systems
  • Set and Operate – No programming.
  • Working a 3-shift system – nights is 4 nights, Mon - Thurs

Requirements for Machinists

  • Apprentice trained to Level 3, or other engineering qualifications considered.
  • To have worked in a fast paced, automated environment
  • CNC turning knowledge, but CNC Milling experience also readily considered.
  • Strong machining skills

Duties for Production Operations Manager

  • Lead, manage and develop the manufacture and dispatch of products
  • Lead transformation of production and warehouse operations with increased level of automation
  • Create management strategy
  • Regular staff reviews and support progress

  • Monitor costs against budgets, prepare annual budgets

Requirements for a Production Operations Manager

  • Significant previous Production and Warehouse Operations Management experience
  • High volume environment, preferably FMCG, Will consider other areas, such as packaging, food, beverage and automotive 
  • To have managed where there is a high level of automation
  • To have previously managed culture change
  • Degree level education or equivalent 
  • Previous experience of budget control and management

  • Responsibility for operating of the Tin Plating Line process
  • Health and Safety compliance
  • Ensure the process produces the highest quality product
  • Analyse of production data and engineering runs
  • Optimise the plating process
  • Quality checks by use of Xray machines, Pero washing
  • Operating and programming furnaces
  • 5S
  • Loading and unloading furnaces
  • Establish process controls

Requirements for Electro Plater

  • Experience of electroplating in a production environment
  • Previous experience of setting up and sustaining electrochemistry equipment
  • Knowledge of metrology methos
  • Handson knowledge of chemical development and electrochemical processes
  • FLT licence – Counter balance would be beneficial
  • Previous experience of measuring equipment and chemicals
  • IT Literate
