Manpower Resource (Contractors):

This service is aimed at providing Contract Engineers at short notice, to work either on or off site to supplement your existing workforce. These engineers have all been interviewed and screened for their qualifications, suitability and experience and many have a strong working history supporting our customers with their project workloads.

The benefit to our Clients is he pure flexibility of being able to take on an engineering resource to complete a given task over a given timeline on a given budget, putting you in control of your project timelines. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineering & Design Lead, to work with a leading manufacturer of advanced process technology, who have a rich, well-established background. They have sites here in the UK and overseas

The purpose of the Mechanical Design Team Leader is to manage a team of mechanical design engineers of a specific product sector. This requires hands-on technical design leadership, in addition to managing the team workload, communication, quality, and long-term professional development of the team.

Pay, Hours and Benefits

  • £55,000
  • Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 5pm, 1:30pm Finish on Friday’s

Engineering & Design Lead Candidate Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience in 3D design, analysis and testing of mechanical systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise accordingly
  • Experience leading and developing other engineers
  • Commercially aware
  • A level of flexibility is required, as some UK and Global Travel is included

Engineering & Design Lead Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

Technical

  • Provide technical direction to the team, producing sound engineering solutions to engineering problems, backed up with design analysis where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to problems incorporating the latest materials, manufacturing processes and technology to drive the product range forward.
  • Manage product developments, ensuring changes are controlled and implemented across the product range to maintain a standard equipment offering
  • Take overall design responsibility for projects assigned to the team and manage them from project launch to completion ensuring all project deliverables are met.
  • Ensure all required design standards and legislation are met and that supporting documentation is produced and approved.
  • Take responsibility for equipment quality, resolving any design problems found during manufacturing or commissioning. 
  • Coordinate technical support to sales to help produce accurate project proposals and to manage project risk.

Team Management

  • Direct day-to-day management of team members.
  • Recruitment and training plans for direct reports as well as mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Management of project cost, schedule and quality.
  • Review and provide feedback on prospects incl schedule, design hours and project risk.
  • Deputise for the Engineering Manager or other Lead Sector Engineers when needed.
  • Drive and be a role model for the company values & behaviours.
  • To be aware of and follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures, in respect of self and others.

Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering 
  • At least 3 years’ experience (any exposure to heavy equipment / machinery design would be highly advantageous)
  • Good 3D CAD skills (preferably Pro Engineer/CREO).
  • Experience of Finite Element Analysis is desirable
  • Experience / working knowledge of one or more of the following:-
  • Metallurgy
  • Welding
  • Casting Methods
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the following; 

  • The Design Engineer will support the Group Quality Council process to identify and resolve problems raised at the root cause quickly and effectively and manage engineering change process.
  • Work with teams across models to produce full manufacturing specification package including Engineering BOMs and Drawings.
  • Follow Group standards in the areas of FMEA, DFM, prototype development and field testing, follow Group engineering standards and associated IT systems, to ensure effective global management of released engineering data.
  • The Design Engineer will reduce manufacturing cost through improved design and consultation with the production department, purchasing and suppliers.
  • Develop an expertise across the range of machines to provide support to the manufacturing business. 
  • Support NPPD teams as required with a range of tasks from detail drawings to the structural analysis and optimisation.
  • Ensure current products meet standards and performance levels specified for safety, function and reliability
  • Support the global after sales teams where technical input is required. Investigate and address Customer Complaints in a timely manner where identified / allocated by internal systems or engineering manager.
