This team consists of experienced consultants supported by a specialist sector researcher, covering all aspects of the needs and demands of a modern engineering customer base, from blue sky concept design, research and development, right through to design for product launch.

How have we achieved this?

Probe started life in 1994 as a Design House and built up a very strong database of companies requiring a design service and have since gained an enviable reputation for quality and service. This progressed naturally to supplying client companies with designers on site and thus provided us a very natural progression into Recruitment as we fully understand our clients and candidates needs.

Manpower Resource:

This service is aimed at providing contractual and permanent engineers at short notice, to work either on or off site. These engineers have all been interviewed and screened for their qualifications, suitability and experience and many have a strong working history supporting our customers with their project workloads. This service can be either provided on a Contingency (No Win-No Fee), Retained Assignment or Executive Search basis.

The operation consists of a fabrication facility, assembly area, large yard, logistics area and finished goods stores with the majority of product designed and manufactured by the company at their UK site.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will work within the Mechanical Team to assist with the company’s development of innovative products and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to;

 

  • Preparation of drawings, bills of materials and design calculations for both new products and modifications to existing products
  • To work closely with the company’s production and manufacturing engineering functions to ensure designs are as effective as possible for the wider business
  • Support of the company’s sales and marketing functions
  • Liaison with other departments within the company to help achieve common goals
  • Creation and development of conceptual design schemes
  • Attendance of site visits, meetings and surveys as required by the projects
  • Any further related tasks as defined by the Engineering Manager

Person Specification

 

  • You will hold a Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • At least 2 years Mechanical Design Engineer experience
  • Experience in 2D / 3D CAD systems (Autodesk Inventor is preferred)
  • Knowledge of fabrication and/or steel structures
  • Experience with SAP ERP or similar is desirable
  • A good appreciation of the importance of Design for Manufacture / Assembly principles
  • Practical manufacturing or installation experience will be seen as beneficial

Salary and Benefits

·£30,000 - £38,000. Negotiable, dependent on experience

Role Function

  • Operating as part of the mechanical team, a typical day will include you being involved in ongoing and new design projects, inclusive of calculations, and occasionally advising on foundations (experience in this area is not a pre-requisite)
  • The role offers real variety, with responsibilities across different functions and working on a good mix of projects/products

Person Specification

  • You will hold a Structural Engineering Degree, or similar
  • Any exposure to steel, mast/column structures, fabricated steel components or large-scale bespoke structures would be particularly useful
  • Structural Design and Calculations experience (a level of calculations experience would be highly advantageous)
  • Understanding of foundation design based on site conditions and structural requirements (useful, but not essential)
  • Ability to complete failure mode analysis and site-investigations into ageing structures and structural integrity, advising on structural maintenance and reviewing structural maintenance reports (ideally)

  • £24,000 - £40,000 dependant on level of experience

The Company:

The Role:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience working in industrial structural engineering with experience of either;
  • Mast or column structures
  • Fabricated steel components
  • Large scale bespoke structures
  • Ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered status with relevant engineering organisation e.g. IStructE
  • Understanding of relevant British and European design codes and their application to structural design
  • Experience in 2D / 3D systems (Inventor would be desirable but is not essential)
  • Ideally you will have some experience overseeing product development, custom structural design, executing design calculations and design validation
  • Understanding of foundation design based on site conditions and structural requirements
  • Appreciation of dynamics and wind loading requirements when applied to structures in situ      
  • Ability to complete failure mode analysis and site-investigations into ageing structures and structural integrity, advising on structural maintenance and reviewing structural maintenance reports
