Introduction:

Systems Development Engineer

A global facing engineering organisation who has a Northants based technical centre, is currently seeking a Systems Development Engineer to support their current product development programmes.

The position will support the production of the company’s product range with associated software, electrical and electronic tooling by hands on involvement through all stages of the product lifecycle. 

Duties will include:

  • Development and maintenance of the hardware and software for Production tools using Visual Basic and developing .NET software with languages such as C# and microcontroller compilers (MPLAB XC8/XC16/XC32 or any other).
  • Compilation and analysis of operational, test, and experimental data necessary for the design and integration of business systems using MySQL scripts (MariaDB or any other) and developing C# to MySQL interfaces.
  • Development of action plans to achieve short and long-range efficiency goals, selection of new production methods, designs of production fixtures, and methods to monitor efficiencies.
  • Provide effective interdepartmental support for the release of new tooling and the continuous improvement of the existing ones. Includes operator user manuals, training, report writing and repairing of electrical/electronic tools.
  • Research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly / welding / testing methods and general production equipment.
  • Networking with counterparts in other facilities (and external agencies) to leverage and share best practices (may require travel abroad).
  • Within Production Engineering team represent manufacturing to assist new / revised product introductions including product conformance to DFM criteria, operator and system goals, training and implementation evaluation (PRISM “S” gate deliverables (internal procedure)).
  • Detailed in-process debugging and fault finding across the mass flow product range and the designed tooling.
  • Maintaining data and gathering backbone data.

Education and requirements:

  • BSc degree or higher in Electronics or equivalent
  • Practical analogue/ digital / electromechanical design

  • Competent with C/C++ embedded firmware for 8, 16, and 32-bit microcontrollers.
  • Schematic entry and PCB design (preferably Easy PC).

Introduction:

Mechanical Design Engineer (Product Support)

A global facing engineering organisation who has a Northants based technical centre, is currently seeking a Design Engineer to support their current product development programmes.

The position will be based within the R&D department providing life-cycle support of existing products. Their products are state-of-the-art and combine mechanical and electronic components and applications.

The duties will consist of but not be limited to the following:

  • Evaluating and implementing design change requests related to the full range of products.
  • Preparing, maintaining and revision control of 3D CAD models, drawings and BOM’s using SolidWorks and PLM software.
  • Updating and correcting CAD modelling errors in legacy SolidWorks Drawings, Parts and Assemblies
  • Re-drawing legacy AutoCAD designs in SolidWorks
  • Provide CAD draughting support to Research and Development Engineers
  • Work closely with and support other departments (Production, Production Engineering, Purchasing, Quality) and suppliers to improve existing designs with respect to design for manufacture and assembly.

The position will be responsible for performing a variety of engineering and design tasks on the specified product range.

Based within a team the role will jointly review & process customers application requests and carry out the following duties:

  • Following standard techniques and procedures, selection / application of standard or special seal products to meet customers' needs.
  • Generation of engineering proposals / specifications for standard or special products, including determining cost-effective materials for production
  • Seal calculations (including leakage calculations, heat generation, balance temp, flow rates etc.) and other engineering calculations as required
  • Provide applications guidance to CAD Engineers to complete layout (GA) and detail drawings

An established Central Midlands based supplier to OEM’s who are about to expand their development and assembly facilities further in 2019 / 2020, are currently seeking Product Engineers to support Interiors Commodities projects. These projects require direct involvement from concept and virtual design, through to eventual sign off for manufacture and assembly.

The Product Engineer will be part of the core team of Engineers and Designers tasked with the Design, Development and Integration of various plastic parts and components that are often finished with a myriad of material options. These projects will often work in conjunction with the end whole vehicle developer, from the concept stage and will often be responsible for managing short notice changes to designs or manufacturing processes from the customer along the way. The positions will be supported by an infrastructure of specialists from Tooling / Process / Validation and Programme Management.

The development of the commodity from the virtual phases will require close liaison and agreement with the customer on program timing, so that good tooling kick off, validation, and optimised design can be achieved.

This is a position that requires a number of skill sets that are biased towards the development or new product creation of a component or part from a Design, Prototype and Design for Manufacture consideration, however the positions also require excellent communication and project engineering abilities to work in close liaison with all relevant parties to ensure a desired project can be achieved and is possible within a determined Timeline, Cost and Spec Proposal. Other consideration such as materials, delivery and assembly factors will also be part of the remit, with the support of leaders from those departments.

Product Engineer (Skills and Experiences Required):

  • The right candidate will have at least 3 years recent working experience of Automotive Trim New Product Development / Introduction
  • Good Project Engineering exposure within an automotive environment
  • Strong knowledge of Plastic Injection Mouldings, A-Surface and Trim Components.

Introduction:

An established and global facing manufacturing organisation is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their internal Research & Development Team, to work as the Electrical Development/Design Engineer as part of a Machinery, Research and Development.  A suitable candidate must be capable of designing the electrical system under minimal supervision, with a desire to undertake panel building and machine wiring as part of the development process,  but also has the ability to manage and coordinate with build contractors to expedite the workload when necessary. 

Duties will include:

  • Design to specification of electrical control panels and machine wiring for machinery designed and built within the R&D workshop. Including integration of 3rd party supplied equipment.
  • Continuing investigation into correct equipment and parts suitable for purpose. Investigate new parts and techniques to improve and/or reduce costs to machine design.
  • Generate CAD drawings and Parts Lists to produce connecting drawings, panel layout, door layout, circuit diagrams and wiring diagrams to represent the interconnections between circuit components.
  • Specify appropriate components; liaise with outside suppliers of goods and services.
  • Working within the Machinery Department and project Budget Specifications place orders for component parts and prepare documentation for contractor build of control panels and machine wiring.
  • Maintain records of purchases and costs.
  • Able to safely undertake wiring modifications and adapt equipment as design requirements vary. The ability to build small panels and make test equipment/wiring leads.
  • To test machines to ensure machine is safe to power up, to confirm PLC I/0, E-stop and guarding operation, Motor operation etc. To perform final machine electrical tests prior to dispatch.
  • Ensure machine complies with current legislation with regards to Machinery Directive; Electrical build information is documented for technical construction files, testing and inspection. Update machine operation manuals.

A suitable applicant for this position will hold experience and qualifications:

  • Electrical qualification HND or above in Electrical Engineering
  • Good software related skills - AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical and EPlan would be advantageous.
  • Electrical/Electronic Installation Qualifications
  • A Working knowledge of Machinery Directive requirements especially BS EN60204-1 and BS 7671
  • Basic knowledge of PLC’s. AC and Servo Motors and Controls
  • Machine Wiring experience within safe working practices
  • Familiar with Machine and Operation risk assessments.
