This service is aimed at providing Contract Engineers at short notice, to work either on or off site to supplement your existing workforce. These engineers have all been interviewed and screened for their qualifications, suitability and experience and many have a strong working history supporting our customers with their project workloads.

Product Functional Test Technology Engineer

Our world-leading client is looking for a Product Functional Test Technology Engineer, inside IR35. The initial assignment duration is 12 months with the possibility of extension.

This laboratory test focused position designs or specifies test systems that allow operation of client’s products in a laboratory environment for engineering evaluation to optimize their product designs.

This position also involves the specification, design, implementation, validation and support of test systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems.

You will be based on the Darlington site every day.

  • 12 months, possibly longer
  • £18.00 - £22.00 per hour (this role is inside IR35)

Product Functional Test Technology Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Preferred candidates will have at least 2 years relevant experience working in a laboratory/test cell environment such as a non-exempt role, temporary student employeeship, co-op, or other similar activities or roles.
  • College, university, or equivalent associate degree or certification in an appropriate STEM field is preferred.
  • Must be logical and organised
  • Experienced with data analysis

Product Functional Test Technology Engineer Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Investigates product test system and process problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Applies and supports the improvement of processes such as test system specification, design and validation and tools such as FMEA, 7-step problem-solving, and process hazard analysis, required to support the processes and enable high quality decision-making.
  • Obtains input and negotiates with lab customers, lab technicians, and component suppliers and delivers test system requirements, processes, and instructions to lab technicians, product functional test engineers and equipment suppliers.
  • Make decisions in the areas of component selection, calibration processes, and operating processes that impact test equipment accuracy, reliability and operating cost.
  • Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with a greater degree of technical complexity and ambiguity over the entry level engineer level and with greater accountability to the project team.
  • Provides independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes.
  • Involves minimal direct management of people but could involve the coordination and direction of work amongst technicians and/or temporary student employees.
  • Obtain and negotiate customer requirements for testing internal combustion engines and aftertreatments, as well as new powertrains & vehicles.

Other Duties

  • Translate test requests into daily test plan and instructions actionable by Test Operations & the Powertrain Testing Team.
  • Coordinate with Test Technology and Test Controls to ensure availability and accuracy of the equipment.
  • Report daily the status of the test requests vs schedule.
  • Process the output data and assess their quality using accepted standards in alignment with the requirements of the engineer responsible for making product decisions.
  • Apply and drive improvement processes in the areas of setup of test articles, automatic test sequences, equipment management.
  • Help training junior employees and / or placement student.

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Our world-leading client is looking for a Design Engineer, inside IR35. The initial assignment duration is 6 months with the possibility of extension.

This is a hybrid role, meaning you will be expected to work on site at Milton Keynes one day per week and will be working from home the rest of the time.

  • 6 months, possibly longer
  • £28.50 per hour (this role is inside IR35)

Mechanical Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Creo CAD modelling (solid/surface) & design in context expertise essential, with an understanding of fundamental mechanical design.
  • Must be driven, a self-starter.
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline with a minimum 2-years relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with plastic injection moulding / casting / fabrication design is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of fundamental mechanical design (DFM, DFA, static/dynamic loading, structural mechanics).
  • Expertise in selection of mechanical components, suitable materials & joining technologies to meet system requirements.
  • Experience following product development cycles & delivery of mechanical designs for key design gateways.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles from concept through to detail design.
  • Understanding of Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing leading to robust DFM & location strategies that aligns with Lean Manufacturing principles.

Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • This person will be responsible to deliver the design of components within the Mounting Systems commodity group for a commercial battery application.
  • Ensure a robust design and compatibility with other sub-systems and components (concept, design, quality, selection of right material and components and design for manufacturing).
  • Responsible for the specification, design & drawings of mechanical elements of their components.
  • The role will require an understanding of physical, informational, electrical & material interactions between components.
  • Deliver component requirements & meet quantitative targets (weight, cost, size) while ensuring a robust design that is right first time.
  • Ensure DFMEA, Engineering Specifications, Standards, Design Rules & Guidelines, Requirements, Statement of Work process/documents are effectively implemented in the design condition at the appropriate design maturity gateways.
  • Meet commodity timing plans to ensure the design team is able to deliver to critical program milestones.
  • Identify key mechanical failure modes & validation workstreams in order to capture these.
  • Lead issue resolution for mechanical component failures throughout validation.
  • Support Lead Engineers & Commodity owners with suppliers reviews through design phases, procurement of prototypes and production tooling development system multi-physics FEA models beneficial (static & dynamic).

DESIGN ENGINEER

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer, to work with an established leader in their market, who are part of an international manufacturer, operating from a new, state-of-the-art facility.

Design Engineer Role Function

The Design Engineer will create new products and take responsibility from inception to final design within an agreed timeline. You will meet customer and sales expectations through customizing existing products and components to their new product requirements within short deadlines.

Candidate Specification

  • A proven Design Engineer, who is self-motivated and self-managing, with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Essentially, you will have proven experience of designing from concept to final product.
  • Simulation and Testing experience would be highly advantageous.
  • At least five years’ experience in a product development role with plastic and rubber mouldings – ideally.
  • Experience in metal work fabrication, and in sealing technologies to prevent the ingress of water and dust.
  • HNC/HND qualified.
  • Experience in 3D CAD, PTC Creo experience would be an advantage, but is not essential, other 3D proficiencies will be accepted.
  • Works well to deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Design Engineer will manage projects to improve performance and reliability of present and future products, covering the concept, specification, tender and development of new products or components
  • Design the aesthetics, materials and functionality of new products
  • Use Creo CAD system to design and visualise projects create 2D drawings to enable procurement of tooling and components
  • Create photo realistic images from 3D models and assembly’s for customer visualisation
  • Undertake model making, prototyping and product testing

DESIGN ENGINEER

Our world-leading client is looking for a Design Engineer, inside IR35. The initial assignment duration is 6 months with the possibility of extension.

This is largely a remote working role. You will be required onsite at Milton Keynes, once every two weeks. 

Duration: 6 months, possibly longer
Pay: £29.00 - £31.00 per hour (this role is inside IR35)

Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline with a minimum 5 years relevant experience.
  • CAD design experience (CATIA, Creo, or NX).
  • Working experience with Battery Systems / Electrification.
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles & toolsets (DFM, DFA, DFMEA, design in context).
  • The Design Engineer will have familiarity with product design life cycle management (PLM) - particularly in concept development.
  • Self-motivation, time management and proactive prioritisation essential.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work with a wide range of individuals.

Useful, but not Essential Experience

  • Knowledge of Problem Resolution Techniques (e.g. - 8D, Six Sigma).
  • Windchill/Creo PTC experience (training can be provided on specific setup).

Design Engineer Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Develops fit-for-purpose concepts for battery products and provides technical advice for RFI/RFQ activities for the technical function.
  • Supports product planning support and provides technical input for future roadmaps and technology development plans.
  • Supports cross-program strategic continuity of design.
  • Understands and employs the fundamentals of mechanical, thermal and electrical battery design.
  • The Design Engineer will run fit-for-purpose battery attribute analysis and apply knowledge & application of analytical tools.
  • Apply processes, such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG) and tools such as 7-step problem-solving to enable high quality decision-making in concept development.

PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER

Our world-leading client is looking for a Product Design Engineer, inside IR35. The initial assignment duration is 6 months with the possibility of extension.

This is a hybrid role; you will be expected to work onsite 1 or 2 days per week.

For this role we're looking for an engineer with a design biased background who has some project management experience. You will need to be comfortable drawing up quality reviews and liaising with suppliers.

  • Duration: 6 months, possibly longer
  • Pay: £25.48 - £28.66 per hour (this role is inside IR35)

Product Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • CREO experience is required
  • PTC Windchill experience would be a big advantage
  • Ideally Degree qualified, but this isn’t essential
  • Prior entry level engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required
  • Knowledge of MS Office 

Product Design Engineer Job Summary

  • This product focused position applies knowledge of engineering principles and design practices to create optimized design concepts and mechanical design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability. 
  • This role effectively communicates the capability of a design concept to meet cross-functional requirements including assessment of alternative and competitive design concepts and works effectively across cross-functional disciplines to develop corporate and customer requirements including those required to resolve product issues.

Our world-leading client is looking for an experienced Creo Design Engineer. This position is inside IR35.

This is a hybrid role. Their expectation is that to start with, you will be required to onsite 1 or 2 days per week.

Contract duration is initially until the end of the year, but this may be extended.

Contract Duration: 7 months
Pay: £31.32 per hour (inside IR35)

Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Ideally Degree educated, although not essential
  • CREO experience is essential
  • Ability to work on your own
  • A good team player
  • 3D and 2D experience
  • Experience of casting, machining, manufacturing processes and their limitations would be required
  • Some automotive experience would be nice but is not essential
  • Windchill experience would be a big advantage

  • Integrated Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (iDFMEA)

Key Responsibilities

  • Use PTC Creo Parametric 7 to develop 3D Models and 2D Drawings of components and assemblies. 
  • Takes engineering aerodynamic profiles develops components to comply with customer space constraints (engine chassis pipework etc).
  • Works with an understanding of the application, product life, cost, manufacturing processes, assembly and service.
  • Likely to be experienced in casting design and with an understanding of varied machining processes.
  • Understands the basics of aerodynamic design and finite element stress analysis and able to work collaboratively with client functions to result in a robust design solution which complies with company standards.
  • Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects with minimal supervision.
  • Translates customer technical profile and interface constraints into a practical component or assembly level model and drawing.
  • Integrates aerodynamic designs into component design.
  • Applies technical knowledge to package designs into various installations.
  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success. Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.
  • Works collaboratively and proactively with other functions (such as FE Analysis teams) to ensure a robust design outcome
