Introduction:

Product Engineer (Product Design, Engineering and Development).

Responsible for the Product Definition, Validation and Execution.

Company:

An Automotive supplier of a range of plastic biased trim products, are seeking a Product Engineer to support programmes in the areas of Product Engineering.

The role will require a CAD biased background in experience of getting concepts and prototypes through life cycles and approval stages, typical to Automotive Tier 1 stages.

Duties:

Daily activities will include:

  • Work with build coordination and technology group (process) engineer to direct design verification build and prototype build and record all design problems.
  • Assign all design problems to proper engineering discipline for countermeasure.
  • Responsible for Design Verification and Product Validation of the project, through liaison with the test lab and quality departments.
  • Interfaces with the customer to ensure all engineering needs and requirements are being met.
  • Coordinate engineering changes through the customers and internal systems during the Development Phase.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
  • Work with the Project Manager and other engineers to establish priorities and assign tasks to complete the project according to the defined schedule.
  • Support launch at the customer assembly plants.

Primary duties will include:

Coordinate and follow product engineering responsibilities from design concept, through Prototype build, pilot, production, and life of the program.

Provide feasibility input to support Studio Design & Package Requirements and Champion, support and participate in Design and Engineering Reviews.

Create and maintain a Master Section Package for the Commodity.

Work with advance engineering, styling and the company’s technical centre on development of the Concept and feasibility of components and vehicle level integration.

Work with and direct the CAD team to ensure all engineering parameters and customer requirements are being fulfilled on a timely basis.

Update Product Definition whenever project definition changes.

Develop the DFMEA, DFM and other engineering disciplines if specified by the customer.

Organise and develop Design concepts, product architecture and set internal Engineering specifications.

Directs, coordinates, assigns tasks, and works with customer engineers to bring all Engineering disciplines together on the project.

Prepare preliminary detail drawings, with assistance of CAD design group

Prepare layouts/detail drawings for review and release, with assistance of CAD design group

Utilize and apply GD&T.

Develop DVP&R, obtaining customer approval, and initiating all laboratory and virtual tests.

Ensure that the product design complies with all product requirements and any international Legal standards when applicable.

Ensure that the product meets all engineering objectives and targets for weight, acoustics, water sealing, cost, service etc.

Skills and Requirements:

The right candidate will be:

  • Degree Qualified in and Engineering, Product or Industrial Design field.
  • Good exposure to engineering applications with at least 3 - 5 years in Automotive Engineering preferred
  • At least 3 years of Automotive Interior Engineering / Plastics experience.
  • Knowledge of Plastic injection moulding, post processes and assembly of complex components.
  • Experience working with UK OEM’s as a Tier 1 supplier in an engineering function.
  • Ability to effectively conduct group presentations,
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD standard software with the ability to create, interrogate and communicate geometry requirements.

AutoCAD Technician

A busy North Midlands company who supply the retail, leisure and commercial sectors with ventilation and HVAC applications is seeking a AutoCAD Technician to produce detailed drawings and layouts for mechanical works.

Duties:

The AutoCAD Technician will be responsible for:

  • Production of detailed drawings for air conditioning, ventilation and mechanical works. Possibly to assist with site surveys and heat load calculations for retail, leisure and commercial projects, value £3K-£500K throughout the UK.
  • Must be computer literate, self-motivated, personable, able to work independently and as part of a team and liaise effectively at all levels.
  • Prepared to react quickly and effectively in various situations.
  • Work as a key member of the Design team, taking a proactive roll

Skills & Experience of an AutoCAD Technician:

  • Previous experience within the air conditioning or construction industry would be a major advantage.

  • The primary purpose of the role is to design and define the main product features based on design rules, standards and technical specifications in compliance with company and customers directives.
  • Design the product so it can be integrated into a manufacturing environment
  • Carry out dimensioning diagram and the digital definitions
  • Design and complete projects against given timelines.
  • Contribute to design review meetings and design change requirement updates

Requirements of a CAD Designer:

  • The right candidate will ideally have an automotive component design background that involves complex parts and assemblies with 3D CAD using Catia V5 R18 and plastic transformation, injection / blow moulding tool, GD&T (drawing dimensioning) and mould flow.
  • Experience with CAD tools and ISO design and drawing standards, FMECA and strong Dimensioning Drawing skills.
  • Candidates should be formally qualified in engineering HNC/ HND or above
  • Have at least 3 years recent design engineering experience
