Job Description

This is a fantastic, challenging and varied opportunity, with a leading UK business, that has multiple sites across the country. 

The position would suit a hungry Civil Engineer (or similar), with the right attitude and application to develop their engineering skills further. You will wear many hats in this role, covering elements of design, estimating, planning and procurement. There will be a steep learning curve, which the incumbent would benefit from greatly.

Targets of the Civil Engineer Role:

  • Ability to successfully design a solution and provide an estimate using a variety of different foundation solutions
  • Achieve appropriate grade of corporate membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, client has a good program in place
  • Form strong relationships with existing and new Clients
  • Liaise with departments and build relationships with staff to ensure projects are successful

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist in the day to day running of the South West piling department including; design, estimating, planning, procurement, client liaison, assisting in day to day technical issues.  Such duties will be reviewed and increased over time, in line with the candidate’s natural development and career progression.  
  • Pile Design, Estimating
  • Reviewing enquiries and printing documents, requesting information from clients
  • Carrying out site visits, liaison with clients, attending meetings with clients
  • Preparation of designs for construction issues and ensure compliance with QA procedures, Health & Safety, and statutory requirements
  • Liaison with other members of staff and departments
  • Handover of projects and assisting the operation team, assistance with restricted access projects

Civil Engineer Person Specification

  • MSc Geotechnics or MSc Geology would be preferable, although a Civil Engineering Degree with soils and geotechnical exposure may suffice
  • Mathematically strong
  • The right attitude and application
  • Hardworking and conscientious
  • Previous experience in the piling industry would be beneficial but not essential

We have a position for an experienced Structural Engineer with a strong exposure to Tekla Structures, 3D Modelling, Hand Calculations and Structural Steel Applications.

We are working with a busy and long established multi-disciplined organisation that design, build and install a wide range of steel structure applications for the Industrial and Commercial industry sectors. (Steel Building Frames, Walkways, Floors and Stairs)

Structural Design Enginer Benefits:

Their projects vary from small bespoke applications and additions, through to full scale build and the installation of new production and distribution facilities.

Based within the organisation is the Project Design Team, who are responsible for the concept design, planning and design for the build phases of programmes in direct liaison with all other relevant internal and external parties. 

The position is for a Structural Design Engineer to create solutions using 3D CAD Modelling Tools, Hand Calcs and Project Engineering abilities and to ensure a project can be realistically delivered on time, to scope and cost within the pre-agreed lead time of the order.

The ideal applicant will have experience using structural design and analysis software packages such as Tekla Structural Designer or equivalent.  AutoCAD skills and a general familiarity with 3D modelling software such as Tekla Structures / Advance Steel or equivalent would also be preferential. The ability to produce hand calculations and apply logical engineering judgement is also necessary along with an aptitude for solving problems. Strong experience within steelwork design is essential and applicants must also be familiar with the current codes of practice for steelwork design and manufacture.

Structural Design Engineer Requirements:

  • 2 Years Minimum direct Steelwork Industry experience within a 3D CAD remit environment 
  • Good experience of Structural Design using relevant software. 
  • Excellent Project Engineering abilities 
  • Good structural engineering principles  
  • Ability to check and cross reference designs and projects with Hand Calculations.
  • Willingness to travel to customers sites. 
  • Have a good understanding of Steelwork Manufacturing practises
