Role Overview

  • Client is looking to recruit an experienced Piling Design Engineer, to work within their estimating team, who is looking to progress their career, working within a homeworking role.   • The teams principal objective is to identify new business opportunities by preparing design solutions, estimates and tender proposals for the delivery of a variety of piling disciplines that meets the customer’s needs and in accordance with the Company’s Sales and Commercial Strategy.
  • The role is design and estimating. You will need to be proficient in working with relevant design software and have an understanding of the estimating process. You will be expected to work from a bill of quantities or a set of drawings and any other form of enquiry documents a client will issue and provide piling designs and price estimates for everything from a one-off scheme to ongoing projects which will be completed over several months.
  • You will be required to follow a project through with any design requirements as the project develops or progresses.
  • You will be expected to have combined site experience with quantity surveying skills, commercial acumen and a mind capable of financial analysis.
  • This is a customer focused role that requires you to have the ability to engage with clients to determine their needs and articulate those requirements in order to provide a solution-based proposal.

Design and Estimating Skills Required

  • Interpret architectural engineering plans, blueprints and specification drawings to determine the scope of works
  • Check the tender requirements against the Company’s governance procedure and accordance with the Company’s Sales and Commercial Strategy to determine the most appropriate engineering design solution for the installation of sheet steel, driven or bored piles, etc
  • Prepare designs for fully embedded retaining walls, cantilever and propped solutions, bearing piles either bored driven or VCC using information supplied by the client or suitable generic engineering values for the soil strata present on site 
  • In conjunction with the Contracts Manager, conduct site inspections for tender understanding, analysis of conditions, assessment of risk and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in the tender documents
  • Review contract conditions and incorporate the Company’s requirements within a written tender submission document
  • Liaise with client on an ongoing basis to determine progress of tender
  • Comply with stated Company policies and procedures relating to health and safety legislation

Essential Qualifications and Work Experience

  • BA Engineering / Civil Engineering – or equivalent in relevant experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in heavy civil engineering

Working Hours

  • Minimum 40 hrs per week as dictated to meet the needs of the business.
  • The pressure and fixed nature of deadlines means some late nights may be needed. Overnight stays are rare, but you will need to travel to meet clients on site.

Product Design Duties include:

Product Designer Requirements:

  • The Product Design position requires a minimum qualification of a degree or equivalent in design and at least three years’ experience in a paid design post is essential.
  • The successful applicant must be technically competent in a wide range of design/engineering skills and must have knowledge of new product development and product Introduction. 

Key Skills:

  • Self-motivated and keen to strive to create great consumer products
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Excellent visual communication of concepts and ideas via traditional and digital sketching/drawing ability 
  • A working knowledge of rendering packages such as Keyshot

Design Engineer (Manufacturing & Assembly Environments)

We are currently working with a modern manufacturing facility based in the Wolverhampton area, who have been seeing extensive continued business and turnover growth since the start of 2021

The company operates in a modern production and assembly facility, and they are now seeking an internal Design Engineer to support their day-to-day process operations. This position will allow better and the smoother running of the Assembly Area of the business to ensure the build and sign-off of over 20,000 electro-mechanical products per year.

Design Engineer Duties:

  • The role will focus on supporting the design of tooling (Jig & Fixtures), equipment and process systems used within the facility. This will require 2D & 3D CAD design skills to develop solutions to solve immediate issues on the shop floor as well as long term efficiency improvements across the team
  • To take the design lead on the identification, design and manufacture of equipment’s used across the manufacturing facility. Identifying and sourcing technology improvements and being a key design resource during new product developments for the company. 
  • The role will communicate regularly and update with the Operations Team and evaluate new designs and the production methods best used to manufacture the company’s products.
  • Create and maintain good documentation and records to ensure all projects are compliant, safe and effective.

  • Design & commission jigs and fixtures to support assembly.

The Electronic Engineer position will report to the Head of Engineering and will be the sole electronic biased engineer within a team of Product Design and Prototype Engineers. 

Duties of an Electronic Engineer will include:

  • The creation and development of battery management systems 
  • Ensuring battery management systems meet regulatory and company requirements for safety 
  • Charger design and writing detailed charger specifications 
  • Power Converter Design. 
  • Ensuring designs can comply with relevant EMC/EMI standards and modifying design where needed to ensure this is the case. 
  • Thermal management design of power electronics systems 
  • Design of battery powered electronics to meet global requirements. 
  • Research into new technology and investigating ways of incorporating this technology into future products. 
  • Use of simulation and PCB design software to create prototypes.

Electronic Engineer Requirements:

  • Minimum BEng/MEng degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or other relevant discipline 
  • Experience in the design of Battery Management Systems especially for Lithium-Ion technology. 
  • Experience in motor inverter design and motor control, particularly brushless DC motors, servo or stepper motors desirable. 
  • General knowledge of power electronic devices, including silicon based IGBTs, MOSFETs and wide bandgap technologies 
  • Understanding of device characteristics and issues with switching behaviour in real circuits, as well as power switch driver design 
  • Design of power electronics for both low voltage and mains voltage systems 
  • Excellent knowledge of analogue signal conditioning (e.g., op-amp circuit design) and ideally digital signal processing approaches 
  • Schematic capture using Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics or other mainstream tools 
  • Use of SPICE based simulation tools such as Simetrix and LTspice 
  • Design calculation tools such as Mathcad, Matlab, Excel. 
  • Circuit simulation and tolerance analysis 
  • Robust design including FMEA techniques 
  • Design for high volume manufacture 
  • PCB layout – size/cost minimisation while achieving layouts for inherently good EMC compliance and thermal design.

The Electronic Engineer opportunity will be part of the full product life cycle of a project and will require visits to overseas suppliers and manufactures, to ensure the integrity of designs are maintained. This will allow complete project ownership from concept through to final release to retail.

Focussing on Piling and House Foundation contracts management, the Contracts Engineer will ensure projects are completed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with company procedures, in line with design and specification, through effective management deliver projects on time and to budget.

In this role, the Contracts Engineer will cover the whole of the Yorkshire region. This role is largely based on site with some office work. Client is pretty flexible on remote working and most Engineers are free to manage their schedules as needed. 

Contracts Engineer Salary and Benefits

  • £25,000 - £40,000 (dependant on experience, Graduates with Piling / House Foundations will be considered)

Contracts Engineer Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

The Contracts Engineer will assist in the management of contracts across multi-disciplines with the main duties / responsibilities being as follows:  

  • Co-ordination of projects including tracking progress as work proceeds.
  • Attendance of pre-contract and site meetings with client, client’s representatives and key sub-contractors.
  • Ensure projects are planned and executed in accordance with company health and safety / Q.A procedures and statutory requirements. 
  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day performance of Contract Supervisors, Foremen, Site Operatives and Sub Contractors. 
  • Preparation and approval of all paperwork required for each project, before, during and after contract completion.
  • Ensure all plant, materials and labour are ordered to meet with project program.
  • Site operatives are briefed on the contents of the site file and issued a copy prior to start of work. Where applicable witness the start of the work to ensure they are in line with expectations.
  • Regular inspections of site to ensure works conform to the correct design and specification and are being carried out efficiently.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to site teams, clients and Engineers to ensure compliance with performance specification 
  • Any variations to proposed works are managed in a timely manner, including obtaining designers/clients approval.
  • Site records, test results and plant inspections are checked to ensure all works are being carried out satisfactorily.
  • Toolbox talks and health and safety briefings are presented as works progress ensuring any training needs are met. 
  • On completion, check all works meet required standards and client satisfactions prior to handing over completed works.
