We are working with a global corporation, who are looking to strengthen their south Staffordshire Project Office with the introduction of a Junior Project Assistant 

The company oversee the system design and introduction of capital plant equipment projects across the world and are now seeking support internally for new and existing projects.

Junior Project Assistant Duties

  • The role will be directly involved in supporting projects with administration and information gathering activities, so the position will involve a high degree of IT and MS Office skills, along with regular communication via the telephone, TEAMS and email with internal and external parties. 
  • The organisations projects are typically 12 – 18 months in duration and involve weekly and monthly update meetings with all the relevant parties involved. 
  • Interaction with the Engineering, Sales and Logistic teams will be a daily activity, along with liaison with other international partners.

Junior Project Assistant – Requirements 

  • 6 – 12 months recent office environment working experience 
  • Good evidence of communicating with internal and external parties 
  • Good IT Skills (MS Office) 
  • Good presentation and document skills 
  • A formal College or University education

The Role

The Project Engineer will identify the technical challenges of various projects and derive appropriate solutions, coupled with the necessary organisational skills to lead projects within the allocated timescale and budget. You will be an excellent collaborator and able to build a strong rapport with our customers worldwide.

This is a detailed Engineering calculations role with some project leadership.

Project Engineer Person Specification

  • Any experience of rotating equipment projects/industry would be highly advantageous.
  • Qualified to either Bachelor or Master’s degree level in an engineering discipline with significant mechanical engineering content.
  • Experience in technical design and CAD, with the ability to produce 3D CAD conceptual designs and 2D sketches
  • Initiative-taking and enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Possessing excellent levels of detail and accuracy, and able to shoulder responsibility
  • Microsoft packages, to include Excel, PowerPoint, and Project, to an intermediate standard. Experience of technical software packages would be desirable e.g., FEA & rotor dynamics

  • Identify technical risks at the earliest opportunity and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Work with the engineering team to brainstorm and review potential engineering solutions. Proactively consult with other internal departments and teams as required.
  • The Project Engineer will take ownership of multiple engineering projects with active involvement in a wide range of products.
  • Provide technical liaison from inception to realisation in the specification and / or design, development, and commissioning of customer and / or internal projects.
  • Diagnose faults and rectify to validate products to a high quality.

The Role

Project Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with the sales team to conduct the sales-contracts handover defining scope and objectives of each project.

  • Explore ways of increasing Productivity with further possible unmanned or multi manning and conduct trials to reduce stock allowance for grinding which will reduce machining times. Conduct machining trials using tooling representatives and experts in the field. 
  • Monitor and review operator production efficiencies against targets and carry out any actions where targets are not met with the assistance of the Production team.   • Ensure all completed work is moved onto the next operation by operators and not left in racks for others to move.
  • Regularly review and update the skills' matrix plan to Identify areas of weakness within work cells and operators to ensure we have a fully skilled and flexible workforce.
  • Attend daily factory tour and include team leaders for their input.
  • Update machine capabilities to assist in planning the production requirements.
  • Communicate plans and instructions to colleagues during shift change handover and supply daily email for reference and for others to continue with the required actions.
