Development Technician Duties

The position will part of a team of technical and development specialists that are focused on achieving an increased market share for the business, through innovation and by return through cost effective and timely development of innovative new products which comply with National and International Standards

Responsibilities

  • Capable of developing a broad range of products, (the focus now being the development of electric appliances)
  • Capable of setting up and monitoring tests, preparing models for submission to the appropriate test authority.
  • Develop in conjunction with the project teams and Development engineers, electrical systems and other fuel types such as gas>
  • Interpret marketing briefs into tangible product that can be manufactured within the business capabilities.
  • Develop new products in line with best practice and a number of National / International Standards, including BSEN9001 and BSEN14001

Development Technician Requirements

  • A formal qualification in engineering -  HND/HNC, ideally Electrical or Mechanical biased
  • Some recent relevant industry experience in dealing with electrical circuit diagrams and LV power.
  • Ability to work effectively on their own or part of a project team.
  • Possess good analytical skills and be proficient in Microsoft applications, Word, Excel.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise their workload and meet deadlines.

Product Designer Requirements:

  • The Product Design position requires a minimum qualification of a degree or equivalent in design and at least three years’ experience in a paid design post is essential.
  • The successful applicant must be technically competent in a wide range of design/engineering skills and must have knowledge of new product development and product Introduction. 

Key Skills:

  • Self-motivated and keen to strive to create great consumer products
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Excellent visual communication of concepts and ideas via traditional and digital sketching/drawing ability 
  • A working knowledge of rendering packages such as Keyshot

Design Engineer (Manufacturing & Assembly Environments)

We are currently working with a modern manufacturing facility based in the Wolverhampton area, who have been seeing extensive continued business and turnover growth since the start of 2021

The company operates in a modern production and assembly facility, and they are now seeking an internal Design Engineer to support their day-to-day process operations. This position will allow better and the smoother running of the Assembly Area of the business to ensure the build and sign-off of over 20,000 electro-mechanical products per year.

Design Engineer Duties:

  • The role will focus on supporting the design of tooling (Jig & Fixtures), equipment and process systems used within the facility. This will require 2D & 3D CAD design skills to develop solutions to solve immediate issues on the shop floor as well as long term efficiency improvements across the team
  • To take the design lead on the identification, design and manufacture of equipment’s used across the manufacturing facility. Identifying and sourcing technology improvements and being a key design resource during new product developments for the company. 
  • The role will communicate regularly and update with the Operations Team and evaluate new designs and the production methods best used to manufacture the company’s products.
  • Create and maintain good documentation and records to ensure all projects are compliant, safe and effective.  
  • Reporting into the Operations Manager, the role will be a key part of the operations focus on a wide range of improvement projects, to ensure a more effective delivery of manufactured and assembled products for the future.

Design Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Design & commission jigs and fixtures to support assembly.
  • Create Manufacturing Plans
  • Maintain Manufacturing Plans using In-Design software
  • Create layout plans using 3D CAD 
  • Liaise with the internal R&D team to resolve component obsolescence issues
  • Technical Support for manufacturing equipment used in the area

Experience required for the Design Engineer role.

  • CAD (3D Creo, Solidworks or similar)
  • Experienced in manufacturing process’ in the field

The Electronic Engineer position will report to the Head of Engineering and will be the sole electronic biased engineer within a team of Product Design and Prototype Engineers. 

Duties of an Electronic Engineer will include:

  • The creation and development of battery management systems 
  • Ensuring battery management systems meet regulatory and company requirements for safety 
  • Charger design and writing detailed charger specifications 
  • Power Converter Design. 
  • Ensuring designs can comply with relevant EMC/EMI standards and modifying design where needed to ensure this is the case. 
  • Thermal management design of power electronics systems 
  • Design of battery powered electronics to meet global requirements. 
  • Research into new technology and investigating ways of incorporating this technology into future products. 
  • Use of simulation and PCB design software to create prototypes.

Electronic Engineer Requirements:

  • Minimum BEng/MEng degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or other relevant discipline 
  • Experience in the design of Battery Management Systems especially for Lithium-Ion technology. 
  • Experience in motor inverter design and motor control, particularly brushless DC motors, servo or stepper motors desirable. 
  • General knowledge of power electronic devices, including silicon based IGBTs, MOSFETs and wide bandgap technologies 
  • Understanding of device characteristics and issues with switching behaviour in real circuits, as well as power switch driver design 
  • Design of power electronics for both low voltage and mains voltage systems 
  • Excellent knowledge of analogue signal conditioning (e.g., op-amp circuit design) and ideally digital signal processing approaches 
  • Schematic capture using Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics or other mainstream tools 
  • Use of SPICE based simulation tools such as Simetrix and LTspice 
  • Design calculation tools such as Mathcad, Matlab, Excel. 
  • Circuit simulation and tolerance analysis 
  • Robust design including FMEA techniques 
  • Design for high volume manufacture 
  • PCB layout – size/cost minimisation while achieving layouts for inherently good EMC compliance and thermal design.

The Electronic Engineer opportunity will be part of the full product life cycle of a project and will require visits to overseas suppliers and manufactures, to ensure the integrity of designs are maintained. This will allow complete project ownership from concept through to final release to retail.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the following; 

  • The Design Engineer will support the Group Quality Council process to identify and resolve problems raised at the root cause quickly and effectively and manage engineering change process.
