Job Description

This is an opportunity for you to join a highly successful Manufacturing business based in Banbury as a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQA). Working Days, Monday to Friday within a dynamic and fast paced environment, with genuine prospects. 

In exchange for their expertise Supplier Quality Engineer will receive:

Key Roles & Responsibilities for the SQA Engineer:

  • Manage the Plant SQA/SQD Function to improve quality in line with targets.
  • Manage and develop Supplier partnerships
  • As part of a team manage NPI 
  • Management of APQP and PPAP
  • Management of the supplier problem resolution process (8D problem solving)

Skills & experience required for the SQA Engineer:

  • You will ideally hold an Engineering degree with a specialisation in Quality.
  • Successful candidates will hold SQA experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment, ideally within automotive supply.
  • I would be keen to hear from candidates who are passionate about Quality, results oriented, with strong written and oral communication skills.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience gained within Quality Engineering environmental Management (ideal industry being automotive / aerospace) – desirable, not essential.
  • Degree or HND in Engineering Management systems or mechanical engineering.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in controlling management systems in quality within an engineering or production/manufacturing environment.
  • Managing multidisciplined quality teams.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001.
  • Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) & ATeX experience would be useful, but training will be given. 
  • Produce 8D’s, RCCM’s.
  • Chartered status in Quality (CQI) and a Metallurgist would also be advantageous but isn’t essential.

Quality Engineer Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

Culture and Improvements

  • Instrumental in the development of a culture of determining root cause and providing cost-effective solutions.
  • Become an active Operational process owner / team member. Ensure the continuous development of the Quality Management System (QMS) in consultation with the Operations management team.

Systems and Compliance

  • Involvement in external accreditations such as ISO 9001- & third-party audits.
  • Ensure that a continued proactive and inclusive approach to Quality standards are maintained and practically complied with throughout the entire business by liaison with all levels of the business

Measurement, Analysis, Root Cause and Action Management

  • Lead timely completion and drive action achievement for Root Cause Analysis determined by NCR’s and scrap reports. Lead Quality investigations and subsequent improvements.
  • Provide guidance on Quality tools and techniques to drive Quality improvement. Conduct scheduled Quality audits (as leader/member of audit teams). Monthly reporting to Quality Engineering Manager including relevant Key Performance Indicators. Lead improvement Kaizen and 8D teams.

 Communication and Training

  • Instrumental in the operation of the monthly Quality Improvement meeting. Contribute to communication formats – Quality Flashes, Toolbox Talks, 8D. Identify needs, promote and initiate relevant Quality and related skills training. Support in the continued development of Quality Induction Training.

Testing

  • Utilise relevant materials testing skills in providing a timely service in support of production activities – Dye Pen, Ferrite, Surface Checking, etc. Manage departmental material testing regime – external tests. Record events using recognised systems.

Customer Interface

  • Liaise with customer representatives with respect to physical checks and inspections (in line with customer order and documentation requirements). Input of specific inspection activities to enable the development of ITP’s.

Supplier Interface

  • Proactive liaison with relevant internal departments in problem-solving with suppliers. Immediate supplier liaison on problems associated to deviations to standards, specifications and drawings.

  • The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures that the supply chain companies continually develop their process in line with the design intent and verify their systems to ensure they are compliant with the end customer’s needs. 
  • The SQE will support the SCM Manager / Quality Engineer responsible for delivering all aspects of the Supplier Quality Assurance function. 
  • Work in a team environment with suppliers to develop and implement best practices that emphasise defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements in meeting all customer requirements. Collect root cause analysis and provide corrective feedback to prevent line stops due to supply issues. 
  • Manage the customer specific requirements and offer technical support to suppliers. Responsible for ensuring that the products produced meet quality standards required to minimise quality costs and maximise customer satisfaction whilst ensuring that procedures and processes are adhered to.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • The Supplier Quality Engineer will lead supplier interface from inception through to start of production.
  • Work with purchasing to assess potential suppliers to ensure compatibility with the company Quality expectations.
  • Manage part approval processes for parts on new projects, ensuring that pre-production builds have the right part, to the right Quality and at the right time.
  • Managing quality concerns relating to allocated suppliers. Monitor and control conformity of production within the supply base.
  • Supporting the supplier to resolve quality issues to ensure product quality and supply.
  • Support manufacturing with new model build concerns to ensure build plans are maintained and issues are addressed in a controlled and constructive manner.

Due to an upcoming retirement, a long-standing partner is recruiting a replacement HSEQ Manager.

This role is available on a full time or part-time basis (2 – 3 days per week).

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Our world-leading client is looking for a Design Engineer, inside IR35. The initial assignment duration is 6 months with the possibility of extension.

This is a hybrid role, meaning you will be expected to work on site at Milton Keynes one day per week and will be working from home the rest of the time.

Mechanical Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Creo CAD modelling (solid/surface) & design in context expertise essential, with an understanding of fundamental mechanical design.
  • Must be driven, a self-starter.
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline with a minimum 2-years relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with plastic injection moulding / casting / fabrication design is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of fundamental mechanical design (DFM, DFA, static/dynamic loading, structural mechanics).
  • Expertise in selection of mechanical components, suitable materials & joining technologies to meet system requirements.
  • Experience following product development cycles & delivery of mechanical designs for key design gateways.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles from concept through to detail design.
  • Understanding of Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing leading to robust DFM & location strategies that aligns with Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • This person will be responsible to deliver the design of components within the Mounting Systems commodity group for a commercial battery application.
  • Ensure a robust design and compatibility with other sub-systems and components (concept, design, quality, selection of right material and components and design for manufacturing).
  • Responsible for the specification, design & drawings of mechanical elements of their components.
  • The role will require an understanding of physical, informational, electrical & material interactions between components.
