Tool Designer Salary, Hours and Benefits

  • £35,000 - £40,000, dependant on experience
  • 39 hours per week. Monday to Thursday 7am/7.30am - 3.30pm/4.00pm and Friday 7am/7.30am - 12pm/12.30pm.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

  • Proven experience in designing plastic injection mould tools is absolutely essential for this role.
  • The Tool Designer You will be using Autodesk Powershape software to carry out your role and will ‘ideally’ have experience of the software in a working environment. Other software experience will be considered. 
  • You will be responsible for producing Tool Designs to a high standard, this will include all areas of Tool Design from layout to completion of product. 
  • Every new product brings to the table new challenges and so you’ll need to be the type of person who thrives on this and who will work tirelessly to get the desired results.
  • The Tool Designer will encounter challenges on the way to producing great Tool Designs. Ensuring the files represent what the Designer intended while meeting the standards necessary for them to be used in an injection mould tool can be a real challenge, which requires great relationships and having the right conversations, with the right people, at the right time

Role Overview

  • The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing projects (including completion of general arrangement and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD), from receipt of order to commissioning, on time, within budget and to the customer’s and Impact’s satisfaction.
  • This will include the completion of site surveys, communicating with the customer regarding project progress, liaising with suppliers and contractors regarding requirements, costs and performance and managing costs to maximise gross profit.

Candidate Specification

The Senior Project Manager will be a team player, who is a confident decision maker, conscious of costs, with efficient problem-solving skills.

  • Minimum of a HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar, with steelwork fabrication background & experience.
  • AutoCAD (and/or Solidworks) experience is preferred but isn’t essential.
  • Good communication and customer relation skills (verbal, written and telephone) with staff, suppliers, and customers. 
  • The Senior Project Manager will have excellent organizational skills – able to prioritise tasks to ensure completion of projects within deadlines.
  • Flexibility to cater for changes to schedule and tight deadlines. Pride in work to ensure every project is completed to a satisfactory standard.
  • Proficient Maths and Microsoft skills.
  • Product knowledge of air movement systems would be highly advantageous.

  • The Test Development Engineer will be qualified to a minimum of HND/HNC in a suitable engineering discipline, this can be electrical or mechanical, but you will have a good appreciation of both disciplines.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • The Test Development Engineer will be capable of setting up and monitoring tests, preparing models for submission to the appropriate test authority.
  • Develop in conjunction with the project team, the gas and electrical sub systems used within the product.
  • Interpret marketing briefs into tangible product that can be manufactured within the business capabilities.
  • Develop new products in line with best practice and a number of National / International Standards, briefly EN30-1-1 International Gas Safety Standard and BS EN 60335 Appliance Safety Standards for Electrical and DF Appliances. Also working to USA and other Regionally different Standards.

  • Be accountable for accurate and timely release of testing data, including signoffs of quality control data as acceptable
  • Maintain programmes throughout the NPI process. Be adept at drawing on internal knowledge as well as industry and/or academic resources in reaching testing conclusions.

  • Significant experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment, ideally within pressings, assembly, fabrication, sheet metal or related industry.
  • A manufacturing engineering qualification to degree level (or equivalent experience) with production process design bias and a proven record of accomplishment of delivering results.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing systems techniques such as Lean, SMED, SPC, Process loading, PFMEA, 5S, Standard work, Poke Yoke, visual management, operator maintenance, Spaghetti diagrams, Yamazumi, single piece flow, no fault forward, kan-ban material control and VSM.
  • The capability to use Solidworks, Draftsight, AutoCAD systems to create tooling or layout specifications and drawings.
  • The capability to use Radan in order to program Laser, Turret Punch, Folders, etc
  • Familiar with H&S and risk assessments and strategies to eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Able to exploit the use of PC based systems and MS office tools to support the needs of the role.

  • The Manufacturing Engineer will reduce and eliminate workplace hazards and ensure continuous improvements to workplace health and safety.
  • Design new systems, equipment and processes for the introduction of new products or the improvement of existing ones. Supporting and Leading Continuous Improvement projects, driving out waste, reducing downtime and improving OTIFEF delivery to customers.
  • Target inefficiencies quickly using problem solving techniques such as A3’s, Pareto, Ishikawa, and Root Cause Analysis. Support, cost estimate and document all engineering changes.
  • Ensure non-conformances within production are eliminated and controls are in place to prevent reoccurrences and ensure all manufacturing processes are supported by the necessary training, documentation and Quality Controls.
