Research and Development Candidate Requirements (but not limited to)

  • Ideally, you will be working in a laboratory now, or have done previously 
  • The Research and Development Technician will have experience in electromechanical assembly of precision equipment preferably instrumentation related
  • Familiarity of manufacturing processes such as brazing and welding desirable. Familiarity of other wire joining processes (crimping, splicing, micro-welding, brazing etc.) is desirable.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and documentation. Experience in using Solidworks or equivalent CAD software to construct 3D models desirable but not essential as training will be provided
  • Competent in soldering fine wires and components using high temperature solders including basic circuit board assembly and modification.
  • Experience in using 3D printer desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Experience of component testing in R&D environment including writing technical reports desirable but not essential
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • An interest in and understanding of physics/general science and electro-mechanics.

Research and Development Technician Key Responsibilities (this job description is not exhaustive; a full role description will be sent to you)

Provide support to the R&D department, including:

  • Receive and organise parts/design data including components by maintaining build records and logs of engineering models and prototypes 
  • Organising and collaborating with Production for build processes such as brazing and welding.
  • Work closely with Production Engineering, subcontractors and suppliers when necessary.
  • Occasionally inspect parts and/or work with Goods In department to ensure parts are correct to drawing.
  • Assemble components, engineering models and prototype meters.
  • Design (using Solidworks) and manufacture basic jigs, fixtures and assembly tools utilising our range of prototyping equipment (e.g 3D printing)

The Research and Development Technician will take ownership of the R&D lab:

  • Organising tools and equipment including managing and operating the rapid prototype printers. Process and submit print requests, maintain the stock of consumables. (Training will be provided)
  • Maintaining clean, tidy, organised and functional lab environment.
  • Specifying and proposing lab equipment to fulfill requirements of testing when necessary in cooperation with R&D Engineers
  • Assist with maintaining the stock of raw materials (e.g. metal/ plastic sheet, bar and tube etc.) and hardware.
  • Assist with maintaining the stock and safe storage of hazardous materials. Work in cooperation with the HSE department. (e.g. Keep a record of all hazardous materials being stored with associated COSHH and MSDS documents)
  • Assist with maintaining and operating laboratory equipment (e.g. oven/furnace, environment chamber, winding machine, microscopes, liquid nitrogen equipment etc.)

Lead Mechanical Development Engineer Candidate Requirements (but not limited to)

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree, or similar.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a product design and development role.
  • Involvement in the electro-mechanical design and development of precision industrial instruments and/or process plant equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to technically lead new product development projects from the feasibility phase through to implementation in production.
  • Practical experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software to construct 3D models, manufacturing drawings and BOM’s.
  • The Lead Mechanical Development Engineer will have experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Familiar with the principles and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Advantageous experience would include: knowledge of permanent joining methods such as welding, brazing, adhesive bonding etc. Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as casting, injection moulding, machining, fabrication, forming etc, awareness of basic manufacturing processes e.g. turning and milling.

Lead Mechanical Development Engineer Key Responsibilities (this job description is not exhaustive; a full role description will be sent to you)

  • The Lead Mechanical Development Engineer will technically lead new product development projects from the feasibility phase through to implementation in production.
  • Work closely with other departments (Production, Production Engineering, Test and Validation, Purchasing, Quality, Product Management) during the new product development process to maximise the potential of new products with respect to design for manufacture and assembly, cost, performance, quality and reliability.
  • Preparation of manufacturing drawings and BOM’s using SolidWorks CAD and PLM software. When required, technically assess and implement design change requests related to the full product range.
  • Work closely with and technically support other departments and suppliers to improve existing designs with respect to manufacturability and assembly. 
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments and suppliers to help solve technical problems during manufacture and assembly.
  • Oversee validation testing required during the new development and design change process and summarise results in a technical report. 
  • Wide-ranging support to the R&D department in the research, testing and development of flow instrumentation.

MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

I am recruiting a very exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer for my client based in Grantham.

As a Maintenance Engineer your role will be to carry out planned maintenance across the Factory and Wastewater Treatment Plant. You will complete PPMs and PTIs onsite whilst always ensuring that there is a proactive approach to planned maintenance.

The shift pattern for this role is an 8-week rotation and includes 12-hour shifts covering days, nights & weekends.
