Role Function

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the function of this role is to assist in controlling, monitoring, recording and analysing costs and resources relating to company contracts and enhancing the value of contracts through effective financial control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out contract reviews, conduct valuations and the pricing of variations
  • In conjunction with the Contracts Manager prepare and monitor client accounts, along with conducting measurements and surveying duties on site
  • Carry out cost value reconciliation’s (profit and loss), preparation of contract documents. Check job costings against quoted figures, chase agreement on prices
  • Development of knowledge relevant to contract conditions
  • Chase instructions and ensure we have received written instruction from Project Manager (authority signature). File manual site instructions and keep electronic filing folders
  • Meet with Client (QS) on weekly/fortnightly/monthly basis as project requires
  • Ensure applications are completed on time with Contracts Manager and are issued to commercial. Agree final account with Contracts Manager
  • Liaise with other subcontractors employed by the Company and negotiate with the client and members of the professional team. Calculate accounts and actively negotiate final accounts and payments

  • Good knowledge and understanding of construction & steelwork activity

  • Understanding of building law and regulations, contract law and health and safety law

Based within the organisation is the Project Design Team, who are responsible for the concept design, planning and design for the build phases of programmes in direct liaison with all other relevant internal and external parties. 

The position is for a Structural Design Engineer to create solutions using 3D CAD Modelling Tools, Hand Calcs and Project Engineering abilities and to ensure a project can be realistically delivered on time, to scope and cost within the pre-agreed lead time of the order.

The ideal applicant will have experience using structural design and analysis software packages such as Tekla Structural Designer or equivalent.  AutoCAD skills and a general familiarity with 3D modelling software such as Tekla Structures / Advance Steel or equivalent would also be preferential. The ability to produce hand calculations and apply logical engineering judgement is also necessary along with an aptitude for solving problems. Strong experience within steelwork design is essential and applicants must also be familiar with the current codes of practice for steelwork design and manufacture.

Structural Design Engineer Requirements:

  • 2 Years Minimum direct Steelwork Industry experience within a 3D CAD remit environment 
  • Good experience of Structural Design using relevant software. 
  • Excellent Project Engineering abilities 
  • Good structural engineering principles  
  • Ability to check and cross reference designs and projects with Hand Calculations.
  • Willingness to travel to customers sites. 
  • Have a good understanding of Steelwork Manufacturing practises

You will drive the engineering team in line with Engineering Manager & Supervisor and pursue daily engineering issues that affect production and plant availability.
