Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the design aspects in the preparation of quotations and successful projects for the Company's Design and Supply Work. 
  • To provide cost effective, but safe, design and drawings for Design and Supply projects under our professional indemnity insurance cover.
  • Prepare innovative and cost-effective application suggestions in the promotion of the Company's products and expertise in support of civil engineering sales worldwide.
  • Contribute to the development of design methods for new applications and new products which are vital to the continuing success of the Company.
  • Advise clients in the design methods and applications of the Company's products, by telephone, correspondence and visits, thus promoting the practical and technical expertise of the company.
  • To provide technical instruction and demonstrations of the Company's design software to visiting clients and distributors, and to contribute to the development and efficient use of that software in the department.
  • Responsible for the planning and timeliness of the preparation of the quotations for Design and Supply projects. Assisting in the development of construction techniques that optimise the safe use of the Company's products.
  • Co-ordinate the department's design responsibilities in accordance with the Construction, Design and Management (COM) regulations by providing a unified approach to hazard identification and risk evaluation at design stage

Person Specification

  • A knowledge of civil engineering in general and soil mechanics in particular, to honours degree standard is essential plus 5- 6 years practical experience; this needs to be enhanced by maintaining and awareness of current developments in areas relevant to the Company's civil engineering activities. The jobholder needs to have particular skills amongst which are the following:
  • The level of proficiency required by this job is commensurate with Chartered Engineer status and therefore requires a few years civil engineering experience post-graduation and at least 4 years experience in the geotechnical industry.  Knowledge of contract procedures and planning is also necessary for this job.
  • Good communication abilities are needed as a large amount of discussion with clients, distributors, etc.  takes place both over the telephone and in writing.   Presentation of the Company's design methods at Design Workshops is also an important part of the job. Confidence in the jobholder's, and the Company's, technical expertise needs to be developed quickly.
  • Good project management skills are required to ensure that the design work is efficiently programmed and monitored and a knowledge of Contract Law and the limitations of the Company's professional indemnity insurance are essential.
  • Needs to be able to produce accurate designs and drawings under the constant pressure of a heavy workload. A knowledge of the department's computer software and hardware is essential to provide the necessary technical support.

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work for a fast growing organisation who specialise in the design and development of electromechanical devices. 
The company have seen fantastic growth of not only its own staff and revenue, but also its product range in the last few years and currently boasts a strong team of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineers within its R&D team. 

The position will be daily involved in the mechanical design of devices and components that will house Smart Technology, Electronic and Electrical applications. The role will involve using 3D CAD SolidWorks to achieve the mechanical aspects of the projects - machine parts, fabrications, enclosures and moving parts. 

The right candidate for the Design Engineer position will have a strong background in 3D CAD design and development of electromechanical or mechatronic devices or similar.

  • Be formally qualified in either Mechanical or Design Engineering in (HND/Degree). 
  • Be fully conversant with a modern 3D CAD package (SolidWorks, Creo or similar) 
  • Have 1st principle mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Have an appreciation of electrical and electronic applications.
  • A knowledge of software and embedded software applications would be advantageous. 
  • Good project engineering and the ability to create supporting documentation and presentations in relation to project management duties. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • The ability to work well within a team and understand and learn new technology and procedures. 
  • A strong work ethic.

Role Function

Produce Application Suggestions, Tender Submissions and Design Submissions for reinforced soil, walls, slopes and stabilisation projects, providing clients with quotations and advice on product and technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely Application Suggestions (AS) using company proprietary and CAD software, liaising and advising clients as necessary in order to secure specification in tender documents.
  • Prepare and provide clients with cost effective Tender Submissions (TS) calculating unit rates and costings of construction using company products in order to secure sales. 
  • Produce fully indemnified Design Submissions (DS) as part of the legally binding contract documentation.
  • Identify, analyse and design out potential risks within projects at the AS,TS an DS stages liaising with the Design Manager and Senior Design Engineer(s) as necessary in order to comply with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Construction Design Manufacture (CDM) regulations and minimize exposure to potential claims. 
  • Assist Area Civil Engineers, as required, at technical seminars/presentations in order to promote company products and solutions and improve Sales.
  • Maintain continuous personal development (CPD) in order to keep upto date with company products/policies and technology development.

Person Specification

  • B. Eng. Degree with geotechnical modules – (preferred) or HND with 3+ years’ experience of highways/infrastructure projects
  • A solid working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • An understanding of Civil Engineering and soil mechanics
  • Previous experience in designing with geosynthetics would be an advantage.
  • Current Driving Licence would be an advantage

Design Engineer – Automation / Manufacturing Machinery  

A multi-site production organisation is currently seeking an internal bespoke machinery Design Engineer to design modules for their own manufacturing equipment. The position will have responsibility to designing bespoke machinery and robotic cells for a wide range of products.

As an organisation they are continually seeking to expand their capabilities and methods to manufacture as efficiently as possible, and this position will be key to achieve these aims. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing modules for manufacturing equipment.
  • Commissioning and project managing the installation of machinery. 
  • Independently designing bespoke machinery and or robotic cells for manufacturing a wide range of products.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues at other company sites to design automated machinery specific to the manufacturing capabilities required at each site. 
  • The role will be proactive and innovative in-regards to offering more efficient factory processes.
  • Depending on experience the individual will have to follow projects from conception to commissioning.
  • Flexibility to travel to other local sites will be required. 

The right Design Engineer for this role will have the following attributes:

  • Be fully conversant with 3D CAD with proven experience of designing automated production machinery, incorporating pneumatics, servos and hydraulics.
  • Degree or similar qualified in Mechanical Engineering
  • Will be experienced in the application of robotics.
  • Must be capable of working independently when required but also within a team developing innovative automated machinery and processes and seeing these projects through from concepts to fully functioning production equipment.
  • Must be willing to get involved with the factory floor to work with teams to overcome issues and problems. (This role will not be entirely be desk based to understand the manufacturing challenges and to enable the implementation of the finished equipment.)
  • As well as design the individual will have to project manage entire projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and IT literate.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience of designing, building and commissioning bespoke automated machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Infrastructure Engineer will be managing and undertaking numerous residential, commercial and public sector related clients and projects. Liaison and co-operative working with team members, senior staff and colleagues in other disciplines
  • Writing of Flood Risk Assessment reports, Transport Assessments and other technical reports for strategic development schemes
  • Development of surface water drainage strategy designs, Road design, S38, S104, S106 and S278 documentation
