TOOLING ENGINEER

This is an opportunity for you to join a highly successful Manufacturing business based in Droitwich as a Tooling Engineer. Working Days – Monday to Friday you will be responsible for the introduction of new tooling into production. Long-term prospects are fantastic, and you will be joining a friendly team.

In exchange for their expertise the Tooling Engineer will receive:

Key Roles & Responsibilities for the Tooling Engineer:

  • Responsible for the introduction of new tooling into production.
  • Co-ordinate the purchasing and manufacture of tooling
  • Co-ordinate and carry out tool design reviews and tool trials.
  • Work with designers to ensure new designs are in line with costs, lead times, reduce cycle times and scrap level, and minimising breakdowns.
  • Liaise with suppliers to plan tool improvements and modifications

Skills & experience required for the Tooling Engineer:

  • Ideally, you will hold a HNC Engineering qualification
  • To have worked previously as a Tooling Engineer within a Manufacturing site.
  • Experience with process of tooling procurement
  • Strong IT skills
  • This position could require some overseas travel

DUTIES OF CMM OPERATOR PROGRAMMER

  • To programme and operate the CMM using the online/ offline systems
  • To produce dimensional reports which are both accurate and robust demonstrating the status and condition of sample parts, including PIST scores and SPC when required
  • To support production and ensure parts are measured to CAD / fixtures / drawings, working to PPAP standard ensuring ok parts are produced for the customers on time while reporting any non-conformances
  • To produce accurate measurement reports using CMM
  • To provide additional Support to the project Quality Engineers with gauge R&R and SPC
  • To provide ISIR to support the PPAP, 
  • Support and Assist with First off and any other Quality issues and investigations 
  • These duties are not ‘limited’ or ‘fixed’ and you may be required to take on      additional reasonable responsibilities, as our business needs change.

REQUIREMENTS OF A CMM OPERATOR PROGRAMMER

  • Previous experience in operating CMM machines especially PC- DMIS & ITP software 
  • Previous Quality experience.
  • Ability to read cad / drawing data and understand GD&T 
  • Computer Literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and be prepared to be flexible as deadlines & priorities sometimes change
  • Ability to communicate confidently at all levels is essential
  • Organised 
  • Good Time and Attendance record

Works Supervisor Role Overview

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Workshop Supervisor will oversee approximately 50 staff, on a double day shift, consisting of Team Leader, Operators, Laborers and Apprentices.

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Candidate Requirements

  • The Works Supervisor will have proven experience of supervising or managing in an engineering / manufacturing environment.
  • Machining exposure, particularly grinding would be highly advantageous.
  • Willing and able to work double days shifts.
  • A good communicator, who is able to mentor and get the best out people. 

Works Supervisor Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Maximise ‘lights out’ machining to increase Productivity and record this in TEAMS.
  • Ensure prior to the end of shift, all applicable machines are set up to run lights out, ensuring the Production Priority database is updated with the latest plans and actions which can be shared by all colleagues.
  • Explore ways of increasing Productivity with further possible unmanned or multi manning and conduct trials to reduce stock allowance for grinding which will reduce machining times. Conduct machining trials using tooling representatives and experts in the field. 
  • Monitor and review operator production efficiencies against targets and carry out any actions where targets are not met with the assistance of the Production team.   • Use ANDON boards to assist in the monitoring of Productivity and educate operators in the importance of booking accuracy.
  • Expect multi manning wherever possible. Always question areas that are not and consider options of how to improve this.
  • The Works Supervisor will implement LEAN techniques including 6S throughout the works. Aim for continuous improvement in order to save time and money.
  • Ensure all completed work is moved onto the next operation by operators and not left in racks for others to move.
  • Regularly review and update the skills' matrix plan to Identify areas of weakness within work cells and operators to ensure we have a fully skilled and flexible workforce.
  • Attend daily factory tour and include team leaders for their input.
  • Update machine capabilities to assist in planning the production requirements.
  • Communicate plans and instructions to colleagues during shift change handover and supply daily email for reference and for others to continue with the required actions.
  • Use initiative to make decisions, challenge set plans and try out new ideas.
