CONTRACT MANAGER / PROJECT MANAGER - STEEL

A Contract / Project Manager with steel experience, is required to join a continually growing, reputable structural company. With an ability to see a project through from start to finish, the suitable candidate will be responsible for managing a wide range of contracts for which they are responsible; negotiating subcontract orders, monitoring subcontracted work, as well as, start to finish project planning, costing and performing site visits and surveys.

Your place of work will be split between the head office client sites, along with regular client visits.

Essential Skills of the Contract / Project Manager

  • Project / Contract managing experience, 5+ years
  • Proven steel industry experience. Any rail-based experience would be highly advantageous

  • Well-organised, structured, capable of meeting deadlines and overcoming challenges

Key Responsibilities

  • The Contract / Project Manager will also get involved in negotiating subcontract orders and monitoring subcontractors, planning critical dates, or organising labour. 
  • You will also be responsible for agreeing extra work to be done on a contract, helping to resolve any disputes that come up, and identifying areas for improvements in the contracting processes.

  • Ensure all targets are met - including safety, quality & delivery.
  • The Project Planning Engineer will carry out continuous improvements projects and assist in driving quality.
  • Continuously Monitor Production to resolve issues, identifying root cause and close loop to stop recurrences.

The Role

The Project Engineer will identify the technical challenges of various projects and derive appropriate solutions, coupled with the necessary organisational skills to lead projects within the allocated timescale and budget. You will be an excellent collaborator and able to build a strong rapport with our customers worldwide.

This is a detailed Engineering calculations role with some project leadership.

Project Engineer Person Specification

  • Any experience of rotating equipment projects/industry would be highly advantageous.
  • Qualified to either Bachelor or Master’s degree level in an engineering discipline with significant mechanical engineering content.
  • Experience in technical design and CAD, with the ability to produce 3D CAD conceptual designs and 2D sketches
  • Initiative-taking and enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Possessing excellent levels of detail and accuracy, and able to shoulder responsibility
  • Microsoft packages, to include Excel, PowerPoint, and Project, to an intermediate standard. Experience of technical software packages would be desirable e.g., FEA & rotor dynamics

Project Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Identify technical risks at the earliest opportunity and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Work with the engineering team to brainstorm and review potential engineering solutions. Proactively consult with other internal departments and teams as required.
  • The Project Engineer will take ownership of multiple engineering projects with active involvement in a wide range of products.
  • Provide technical liaison from inception to realisation in the specification and / or design, development, and commissioning of customer and / or internal projects.
  • Diagnose faults and rectify to validate products to a high quality.
  • Ensuring designs meet all legislative requirements necessary and comply with company quality procedures.
  • Produce specifications, test documentation and instructions to accurate exacting standards and assist with commissioning products as required.

Project Manager Duties 

  • The main purpose of the position is to work in liaison with key accounts and customers to ensure projects are completed on time and to cost, with end deliverables that meet customers’ expectations. 
  • Working with the organisations own internal Design, Operations, and Sales Teams to ensure projects gateways are met within agreed timescales and profitability can always be achieved. 
  • Plan projects and programmes with supplier and materials timeline considerations and potential delays or additional costs factored in. 
  • Deal with Design Change or Cost Down exercises quickly and effectively to ensure minimal delay 
  • Read and understand customer and internal CAD Drawings and Designs to ensure the right specification and builds are always achieved.
  • Work with and support internal Quality Management Systems to ensure all projects meet with the company’s own requirements and high standards.
  • Utilising project software and tools to compile data and reports for internal and external update meetings. 
  • Manage multiple projects with lead times that can vary between 12 – 20 weeks on average

Project Manager Requirements 

  • 5 Years’ experience in a Project / Customer Liaison position with responsibility for the delivery of programmes.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills / MS Project Office
  • Good Commercial Acumen 
  • Good awareness of NPD and Manufacturing Methods

MULTI SKILLED MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

I am recruiting an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join a growing engineering team, maintaining a range of manufacturing plant equipment. The role requires you to work a Monday – Friday alternating AM/PM (8-4 / 4-12 shift).

  • Demonstrated ability to technically lead new product development projects from the feasibility phase through to implementation in production.
  • Practical experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software to construct 3D models, manufacturing drawings and BOM’s.
  • The Lead Mechanical Development Engineer will have experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Familiar with the principles and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Advantageous experience would include: knowledge of permanent joining methods such as welding, brazing, adhesive bonding etc. Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as casting, injection moulding, machining, fabrication, forming etc, awareness of basic manufacturing processes e.g. turning and milling.

Lead Mechanical Development Engineer Key Responsibilities (this job description is not exhaustive; a full role description will be sent to you)

  • The Lead Mechanical Development Engineer will technically lead new product development projects from the feasibility phase through to implementation in production.
  • Work closely with other departments (Production, Production Engineering, Test and Validation, Purchasing, Quality, Product Management) during the new product development process to maximise the potential of new products with respect to design for manufacture and assembly, cost, performance, quality and reliability.
  • Preparation of manufacturing drawings and BOM’s using SolidWorks CAD and PLM software. When required, technically assess and implement design change requests related to the full product range.
  • Work closely with and technically support other departments and suppliers to improve existing designs with respect to manufacturability and assembly. 
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments and suppliers to help solve technical problems during manufacture and assembly.
  • Oversee validation testing required during the new development and design change process and summarise results in a technical report. 
  • Wide-ranging support to the R&D department in the research, testing and development of flow instrumentation.
