Powertrain Electronics Engineer

A developer of bespoke Powertrain Technology is now seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to assist in future New Product Development and Design for Manufacture exercises. 

The company are known to be world leaders in their field and have a long successful track record for producing high performance technologies. 

Due to recent investment into machinery and technology the company are now looking to expand their team with the addition of an Electronic Engineer.

Powertrain Electronics Engineer Salary:

  • £40,000 - £45,000+  
  • 25 days holiday plus statutory holidays

Powertrain Electronics Engineer Duties:

The successful candidate will join a small and established team, working together to support the electrical and electronic design aspects of a range of interesting, innovative & challenging projects, in relation to the design and development of inverters and drives for use with electrical machines. 

This role presents the opportunity to be involved in new products over their full lifecycle from concept & design, right through to customer applications & support, allowing significant input into the end result. 

  • Electrical Powertrain engineering concept & detailed design. 
  • Electrical and Electronic Design of Drives and Inverters 
  • A good understanding of Electrical and Electronic Automotive Systems 
  • Management of bills of materials, & build / usage manuals. 

Qualifications:

  • A Degree or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic or Automotive Engineering. 
  • 4+ years of experience in a similar role / environment. 
  • Good Design and Development experience 
  • Electrical machine, mechanical design & internal combustion engine knowledge. 
  • A good knowledge of engineering manufacture processes. 
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with standard office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project etc

Design Engineer Specification

  • The Design Engineer will have 3D CAD proficiency in producing quality detailed engineering drawings (Solidworks preferable)
  • HNC or equivalent in engineering is preferred, but isn’t essential
  • Knowledge or Hydraulic or Pneumatic Systems advantageous
  • Mechanical, Production or relevant Engineering background
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-Starter
  • Excellent time management skills, able to balance priorities of multiple projects

Role Overview

  • The test development engineer team is a support team in the Product Development department. The senior development engineer role is running quality assurance tests on New Product Integration & for continual improvement of current products, as well as taking technical lead for electronics, legislation and providing guidance / direction to the development engineers.
  • This is a hands-on testing role of prototypes and production products. Feedback and analysis from the products tested are required to continually improve the design with the Product Development team.
  • Reporting to the Process Leader in Product Development, this role focuses on the ability to manage, create and implement practical innovative and cost-effective developments that enable the business to gain market share by the generation and release of new products.

This role has a direct impact on the business achieving increased market share and return through cost effective and timely development of innovative products which comply with National and International Standards.

Senior Development Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum qualification is a Degree in an Engineering Discipline with at least 5 years in an engineering / developmental role. 
  • Excellent communication skills in both the spoken and written form.
  • Be fully conversant with product development systems, materials, specifications and processes necessary for the generation and introduction of new products and features.
  • Having a proven capability that includes development of products and / or features (reflecting timing, financial & quality targets).
  • Possess good analytical skills and be proficient in Microsoft applications, Word, Excel. Ability to work effectively on your own or part of a project team.
  • Can analyse and compile testing data from the tests performed.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines. Flexibility and adaptability within a pressurised environment.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Managing and motivating a multi-disciplined project team that will deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective products and features from the conceptual stage to introduction. Managing, planning, costing and controlling a budget associated with a new or modified product or feature. 
  • Being a developmental lead and point of reference within the product development team capable of developing, analysing, interpreting and implementing solutions for new products, or to ensure resolution of any warranty or value analysis proposal.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and adherence to business processes and an awareness of ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO18001. Develop new products in line with best practice and a number of National / International Standards. Also working to USA and other Regionally different Standards.
  • Writing and publishing detailed and comprehensive test reports internally and management of risk for the team
  • Produce both technical presentations and applied samples as and when required in support of sales for customer demonstration and information
  • To undertake or delegate product developments as necessary to ensure timely release of designs, drawings, specifications, etc, as appropriate in line with the project plans / business needs.

Duties of a Pipe Fitter Welder   

  • As a proven Pipe Fitter Welder you will be required to undertake both Installation and maintenance across our plant, which will require you to have experience of  soldered, screwed, flanged and crimped industrial pipework allied to also holding TIG and ideally Coded welding skills working with an array of materials.

Requirements of a Pipe Fitter Welder   

  • Ideally you will hold formal Apprenticeship, however must hold either a City & Guilds Level 2 or NVQ 2 Standard qualification in Pipe Fitting, Welding or Mechanical Engineering.

The company operate a day shift with working hours 7am – 3.30pm
