A new position for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer has become available to join a research and development department that is tasked to develop and create high performance rotating machinery on behalf of internal and external customers.

The organisation has a strong team of specialist and experienced engineers who can quickly provide solutions to technical requests via their own technology and facilities or via local external technical specialists.

Based within this team the role will be responsible for creating mechanical design solutions on often concept or early stage prototype projects.

This will include:

  • 3D CAD Modelling / detailing and machine design skills
  • Testing and Data Acquisition
  • Project Engineering / Management of a specification of  a requirement through to commissioning and into testing
  • Develop and Design appropriate Rotating and Mechanical biased Test Rigs
  • Create and build project case study methods and procedure evidence
  • Carry out 1st Principle Mechanical Engineering processes on all projects
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing of all Design work
  • Liaising with project partners
  • Maintain records and data sheets to ensure projects costs and timelines are adhered to
  • Liaise with Instrumentation and Controls Specialists

We are looking for highly versatile and skilled engineer with a proven capability to deliver. As already shown the role will involve and require a range of skills and capabilities to take a project from specification to fully instrumented, controlled and designed and then into testing and data acquisition, before final release.

This post is a combined design and realisation role, so proficiency in the use of all appropriate design tools and associated software is essential.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • A formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering  (Degree)
  • Experience of CAD systems combined with sufficient hands-on capability (5 Years+)
  • Experience in the design and operation of fluid systems and their constituent components is desirable
  • Experience with motors, drives and power transmission are also highly desirable
  • A proven background in GD&T and working to BS:8888 is also strongly recommended
  • Good communication skills
  • Good recent exposure of Project Management from Concept to Completion
  • Ability to understand the mechanical aspects of rotating high speed equipment or machinery is also essential
