Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

An organisation with a global presence is seeking to strengthen its Midlands based office with a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. The Midlands office is a technical biased R&D centre for the development of Drivetrain systems and technology. However the role does not require a strong background in this specialist area, but a more general mechanical component history of design in either an automotive or commercial vehicle sector.

The focus of the role is to work with the existing team in the creation of new products through prototyping, research, testing and design for manufacturing practices and direct liaison with customers.

The successful applicant will be responsible for.

  • Providing technical support to customers from initial concept to production for the whole product life cycle.
  • The application of these systems to suit the customer’s technical specifications and needs.
  • Formally reviewing and controlling design changes during product lifecycle.
  • The generation of product models and completing detailed GD&T technical drawings using Solidworks CAD system.
  • Technical lead for project through first 2 gateways of the APQP process.
  • Assist in prototype build and test.
  • DFMEA / DVP creation.


  • Minimum 5 Years’ Experience in the Automotive Engineering Industry
  • Experience and knowledge of automotive systems preferably on powertrain applications.
  • Experience based on customer facing Design/Development Engineers.
  • Experienced Solidworks user or similar
  • Experience of designing components and products
  • Degree in Mechanical engineering field, (HNC minimum)
  • Exposure to FEA, preferably within solid works but not essential.
  • Experience of using Matlab / Simulink.
