We have a great opportunity to join a fast growing global organisation who is putting R&D at the forefront of their business model to allow better customer satisfaction and choice for the future.

Based in their Berkshire office the existing R&D team are looking for additional support in the area of mechanical component, packaging and design for manufacture design.

We are currently working with organisation that is responsible to the design and creation of 4 leading market brands  

Within the electronic and electro-mechanical industry sectors, offering, electronic displays, emergency telephones and LED lighting.

The group head office is in the UK, with manufacturing and sales capability in the Europe, China, Singapore and India.

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to play a key role in investigating new technologies and developing the next generation of products, while at the same time supporting and improving our existing products.


  • Generating innovative product concepts and solutions and seeing them through to production.
  • Investigate new technologies relevant to in-house products.
  • Support and maintenance of current products manufactured in Czech Republic and China.
  • Managing / coordinating engineering changes and maintain detailed design records.
  • Preparing and release of component specifications, Bill of Materials and drawings
  • Liaise with suppliers, purchasing, quality and manufacturing
  • Participate in field evaluations ensuring best in class cost / quality versus competitors

Key skills and attributes

  • Must have a relevant engineering qualification and suitable design experience;
  • Experience in mechanical product design of mid / high volume electronic products
  • Specific experience in the design of several of the following;
  • - Aluminium and plastic extrusions,
  • - Design of plastic / metal enclosures for electronic products to meet demanding environmental requirements.
  • - Cable assemblies, PCB design appreciation, component selection / testing / approvals
  • Proficient in 3D CAD systems 
  • Be able to manage designs and projects from requirements through to manufacture
  • Be a pro-active and customer focused self-starter with a can do attitude
  • The ability and personality to liaise with customers and colleagues
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.


  • A Mechanical Design Engineer with 3 years+ experience in industry
  • Qualified to Degree Level
  • A good appreciation of mechanical principles. 
  • Good 2D & 3D CAD skills        
  • Knowledge of optical design would be advantageous e.g. Lens / Light-pipe design
  • Tool design experience
  •  An understanding of wiring diagrams
  • Basic understanding or electronics components


The company offer an attractive salary package, 33 days holiday, 37.5 hr week and an annual salary review.

Other Benefits include: Contributory pension and flexible working hours.  The Design Office is open between 6am and 6 pm, with the core hours being between 09.30 and 15.30.
